    Little help: Rogaine? spironolactone?

I'm a diffuse thinner, still in the pretty early stages. I gave finasteride a go but couldn't take the side effects. What do people suggest as an alternative? I was thinking Rogaine foam but have just read about people using spironolactone with success. Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Does 'the fog' subside?

The doctor didn't check my dht levels when he prescribed Proscar. I've got a follow-up appointment soon so perhaps I will ask about having getting tested then. Might give a topical spironolactone a go too. What would you suggest?

    Does 'the fog' subside?

I started on 1.25mg finasteride daily and suffered severe brain fog about a week in. On advice, I cut down to 1mg daily but this had no impact on the fog. It got to a point that I could barely function at work so decided to stop finasteride for a couple of weeks. Everything returned to normal and so I decided...

    Seeking finasteride advice

Why do you suggest propecia? How does it differ? I was prescribed Proscar by my doctor so have just been following his directions...

    Seeking finasteride advice

I tried cutting the pills into fifths instead. Some of the sides seemed to subside but the brain fog has continued and even intensified. I've been reading that the severity of a consumer's brain fog could be linked to their sensitivity to finasteride. What do others think I should do? Give a lower...

    Seeking finasteride advice

I am certain the sides aren't imagined. I've also been assured any sides are temporary so I will continue with 1/5 of a pill doses until my next appointment with the doctor. If the sides continue, I'll discontinue use. Would rather a functioning wee fella than a full head of hair!

    Seeking finasteride advice

Hey all, I've been on a daily quarter tablet of Proscar for the past 10 days and I've begun to experience the often documented side effects (watery semen, loss of libido, ed, reduced genitals). I am trying to determine what is the best thing to do: a) Continue as is and hope for side effects...

    Clinical depression and hair loss

Just returned from my doctor with a prescription for Proscar, so the fight begins now! Do you think I should start Rogaine now also? Or wait and see how I respond to Proscar? I've also bought some Nizoral 2%, Revita and biotin to add to the arsenal.

^ So you would definitely advise against seeing a trichologist in favour of a dermatologist?

    Clinical depression and hair loss

Appreciate the reply. I've learnt to deal with my depression and anxiety through cognitive behaviour treatment but refuse to take medication for it due to the side effects and dependency that is created. There are still times when it's overwhelming but these instances have reduced. I'm really...

    Clinical depression and hair loss

Thanks for the response. I know depression is a common result of hair loss. But my situation is the reverse. My depression/anxiety preceded my hair thinning. So I am trying to determine whether it was these psychological disorders that contributed to my thinned hair. That the thinning has...

    Clinical depression and hair loss

At the beginning of the year I was diagnosed with clinical depression and an anxiety disorder. I've been undergoing treatment (non-pharmaceutical) since. It's also during this time that my hair has really started to thin in the middle part of my head. Has anyone else suffered a similar...

    Hugo's Story - ( 27 /Thinning and confused)

Hi all, Found this site today and through reading the countless stories told, I already feel a sense of relief. On to my story... I am 27 and around the start of the year, in certain light, my hair appeared to be thinning. I dismissed it initially but it has since worsened. I haven't noticed...
