I'm just upset that none of the derms used a trichoscope to examine my hair. They just diagnosed me with male pattern baldness despite my hairloss not showing any of the usual signs of male pattern baldness.

Here's an image of what I was talking about. The barber used the same trim setting all over the side. You can see a large patch of thinning. Is this alopecia areata incognita?

I have patchy thinning hair on the sides as well.

My test results have all come back normal too. No issues with thyroid, iron, zinc, vit b12, d, etc. Do you think I could have alopecia areata incognita? How does one detect this thing? Can a trichoscope pick it up?

My third derm also suggested I have male pattern baldness.....without using any diagnostic tools. I insist she use a trichoscope to study my hair but with a waltz around me she concluded I have male pattern baldness and refused any further diagnoses. She charged me a fortune at that. Some of the pictures look similar to my hair idk. Diagnosing dupa seems to be hit and miss though.

Whoa!! You could be right. I've been to 2 derms neither of whom have any scalp biopsy or trichoscope facilities. They couldn't diagnose my exact condition either. The next derm I'm going to will be a bit far from my residence but he does have these tools. I'll even mention AAI. Thank you Jan!!

Isn't this condition self resolving? Also I don't have smooth bald patches.

I'm from India. I wouldn't be surprised if some weird herbal folk here practice something close to what you described regarding the heated torches.

Wow. Thanks for the advice and the optimism. You're giving me hope!! Haha On second thoughts, what if my condition turns out to be diffuse unpatterned alopecia? Or chronic telogen effluvium? These conditions are androgenic too right? Would finasteride plus smp be advisable then?
