minoxidil does sound like a hassle to apply, but if you care about your hair you should seriusely consider it. You get used it after a while, and in my case it was extremely effective. Unless you have a differant reason for not using minoxidil.

Yea sometimes there are white flakes. Not too often though. I just brush them out before I style my hair. I don't know if the wet scalp alleviates the issue since I have never actually used minoxidil on a dry scalp. Maybe i'll give it a try and report if I see an increase in white flakes.

After showering I dry my hair a bit and put in the minoxidil when the scalp is still damp/wet. Just make sure to rub it in right away. 5-10 minutes after showering is about right.

How old is your doctor? Propecia only became widely used in the last ten years or so. This is coming from someone who has regrown a substantial amount of hair with finasteride and minoxidil. Also, there is no cure for baldness. Only treatments for hair loss.
