Looks much like alopecia areata to me. If it were male pattern baldness, you would see some miniaturised hair on that bald spot, not just bare skin.

1. Cut that sh** !!! 2. Before you consider a transplant, get on finasteride and minoxidil and use it for at least a year. The generic stuff is cheap. Good luck.

The hair that you shed had been staying in a resting phase for several weeks before it fell out. It didn´t grow like the rest of you hair and was therefore shorter when it fell out. If it was weak hair it might come back stronger.

Shedding is a sign that rogaine worked great for you. It means the hair in resting phase (which is going to fall out sooner or later anyways) is getting massively pushed out by new growing follicles.
