0.5mg a day or 1mg every other day?

What do you guys think, I plan on taking an equivalent of 0.5mg a day of finasteride but I'd rather not have to cut a pill in half every single morning, would 1mg every other day be exactly the same as 0.5 each day? Also, on the pack of propecia it says to not unseal the pills until you have to take them, why is this? I'd like to take 0.5mg each day if I could cut each and every pill on the same day I got them and just keep them stored in halves so I don't have to keep cutting them every day.

Another question, when is the best time to take Finasteride? For me, around 6pm would be perfect, is this fine or?
