Hi guys, I’ve been on generic finasteride for 10 days. Ive had no side effects at all apart from my hair is getting whispy and thinner around the hairline? Is this a side effect that occurs

Other than this, no sides at all

10 days is too soon. Your hair loss was going to progress regardless so you need to give it more time to see how you will respond. In the meantime, you should make sure that you are taking good care of your hair and keep your scalp in optimal health. Either way, this should be considered whether on finasteride or not.

Thanks for the response, I understand that it was going to progress but didn’t think it would progress so rapidly as I pay attention to it daily, it’s like an OCD lol. I only want to be on it for 10 months until I go forward with a hair transplant

You posted in the wrong sub but what you said is wrong enough to force my hand.

Unless you are older and have incredibly mild hair loss, you can not simply stop treatment after you get a transplant. Your Dr will tell you that as well. If you do, you will lose native hair behind your transplant. Eventually you will run out of donor hair.

I was like that when I first started to thin. I kept looking at my hair in every mirror that I came across. I had to force myself to stop doing that. Hair is nothing but dead cells. Ideally, you want your hair follicles to eventually push out the miniaturized hairs and grow thicker hairs. Our hair cycles so slowly which is why you have to be patient. In the meantime you can do things that may help to strengthen your hairs and avoid things that will weaken them. Also, scalp health is extremely important.

What @Alex Contee says about hair transplants is true. I don't know anyone who didn't have their surgeon highly recommend that they take finasteride because of the reason stated above.
