Okay, so i did some tests and i can 100% say that Minoxidil was causing my puffier face, along with the bags under my eyes, and rings around my eyes. Upon waking they looked pretty bad espeically. I was blamming dutasteride for this (sorry dutasteride) but dutasteride wasnt the cause. Ive been on dutasteride for over like 10 days and i quit Minoxidil for over 5-6 days in this time period, and my face isnt puffy anymore, and ive been getting only 5 hours of sleep, and waking up with absolutely no bags, lines, or rings under my eyes, i mean none at all, face is crystal clear and skin looks better. Dr.Lee told me aswell that it would take about 24 hours to get out of the system.

So what the heck do i do? I cant quit minoxidil because i dont want to lose hair, but obviously ive been getting some water retention from it, hence the puffy face, and bags/rings, under my eyes. Is it safe to use a low dose of a loop diuretic daily? Like 10mg of Lasix? Why is the minoxidil getting systematically absorbed? Is it possible for any liquid you apply on your head, to travel to your face from your scalp?

I currently use Xandrox 15 and Xandrox 5 with Retin-A, as my minoxidil solutions. Ive noticed a marked improvement since switching to Xandrox 5 with retin-a and Spin Trap C, about 3 months ago. My hairline pretty much goes straight across again, and i can see the norwood 0 area of semi-vellus hairs at the temples thickening.

Any suggestions? This is probabbly going to be my last post, so can i please get some help, would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

how long were you on minoxidil for? because side effects can go if you continue the use in some cases.

Stax if your face gets swollen on minoxidil, stop using it!

Minoxidil is used for nitric oxide/vasodilation which makes your hair more healthy and you can even regaine hair. For this same thing use 2 grams of arginine in the morning and before going to bed on an emtpy stomach.

Arginine produces nitric oxide not just healthy for hair, but for cardiac function in general and also for your wood!

Also use grape seed extract. A vitamin B complex.

Stax I don't want to interfere with your regimen, but do you really think it is smart to use Dutasteride for hair? Use revivogen and topical spironolactone for this.

This way you can enjoy the benefits of having good dht with great vasodilaton.

If you are interested try this regimen:

-arginine 2 grams - in the morning and before going to bed on an empty stomach

-grape seed extract

-vitamin B complex

-revivogen in the morning

-topical spironolactone an hour before going to bed

If this will not maintain your hair, you can still go back to your old regimen.

If it's causing puffiness in your face/eyes, you need to flat stop using it. It's being absorbed systemically. It could also be affecting your cardiovascular system. Hair, my friend, is not worth that price.

I cant quit minoxidil because i dont want to lose hair

Yes you can, and you should. Perhaps try something else like copper peptides.

Is it safe to use a low dose of a loop diuretic daily? Like 10mg of Lasix?

Umm, no way. You need to cease the cause of the problem, not pile more stuff on top of it. This kind of self-medicating is very dangerous. Please don't do it.

My hairline pretty much goes straight across again, and i can see the norwood 0 area of semi-vellus hairs at the temples thickening.

The results are not worth sitting in a hospital room or worse. There are other things you can try.

Music23, is it water retention causing the puffy face, or is it blood rushing to the face?

My face isnt swollen, its a "bit" more rounder and puffier. I fell perfectly fine, and i had a physical done a few months back, and everything was fine.

I dont want to quit minoxidil, would you want to lose your hair? Ive come too far to let it go to waste and i will not quit it.

I was asking what options do i have, and if taking something like lasix at 10mg per day, and supplementing with potassium would counter the water retention caused by minoxidil. Any suggestions to my questions please? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Oh my god, hospital room? Ive been using minoxidil for a year and a half and physicals showed i was perfectly fine!!!!!!

Really stax I would stop using minoxidil if your face gets swollen.

I advise the same for dutasteride. Even if you are not experiencing any side effects. IMO it is just not worth it.

I understand having nice hair is important, but I think we should not mess with our body. Don't forget you only live once and only get one body! Don't take unwanted risks.

Thx i appreciate it, but my questions still stand.

It "would" help if you can tell me if it is water retention causing the puffy face, or is it blood rushing to the face?

Im getting a bit frustrated here.

I think both. However the fluid retention is what is really causing the edema.

Is it only your face that is swollen? What about your body in general?

Have you measured your blood pressure?

Hi Music23, my face isnt that puffy, but puffy enough where it bothers me. I like my face nice and chisled.

My body is fine, but i was also holding some water in my abs area, but i dont really gainweight because of it . Im lean, thats why the face thing bothers me cause it doesnt suit me, even if its only a little bit puffy or rounder looking. I just checked my abs today and they are rock hard and stomach is flat, opposed to when i was on minoxidil they werent as hard due to the water retention.

Ive heard that diuretics are often prescribed to counteract this side effect when it occurs in patients using "Loniten" minoxidil internally for hypertension .

Why would i be any different? Im talking low dose here.

I believe stax and his adventure with minoxidil. I think it has simular effects with me as far as water retention in the face with minoxidil. With me its more subtle but I think its definetly a factor. Now what to do about it other then quit minoxidil? hmmmmmmm.... the question is, are their any other real solutions?

Same with me. I can't really say that my face has puffed up, rather the quality of the skin has declined.

In the year I have been using minoxidil, my face appears to have aged 10 years. Until I read this post I wouldn't have necessarily thought it was due to minoxidil, however now I am suspicious.

.

The only person who can answer this question is an MD. You need to seek a doctor's diagnosis instead of speculation from forum members.

WHy do you guys think it makes your face look 10 years more old? Due to the water retention? Or another mechanism of minoxidil?

The puffy face absolutely happened to me, too. I really wanted to use minoxidil and I've tried going back on it 3 or 4 times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Some guys just really get systemic with this stuff.

I'm going to try out the arginine someone mentioned upthread though.

I don't think he was claiming arginine would help with the 'puffy face' associated with minoxidil? correct?

I thought he was proposing it was a substitute for minoxidil?

Because if you look closely at the skin in the mirror it is blotchy and a little puffy, as if the skin was retaining a bunch of water. It's kind of like the puffiness you get after a day in the sun, but without the redness. The end result is an older looking type of skin than we had, say a year ago, when we started our treatment.

For all I know it could be the effects of finasteride as well. All I know is that the quality of my skin has aged 10 years in one year's time.

Do you guys think the topical alcohol could have something to do with it?

Also, do you think if we stopped this water retention from minoxidil, that our face wouldnt look aged anymore?
