Hello,
I have been taking .25mg finasteride ED for a full 12 months.
Good news is that I have had zero side effects and that my testosterone levels remained high, low estrogen and DHT slighly below the normal range. I also take zinc daily.
I have "maintained" my NW3 with thinning crown and thickening of existing hairs.
However I did have the expectation that my hair would have been restored to a solid NW3 and completely filled in the crown however it still remains thin /see through.
I have been very patient and consistant and would like to know if I should continue another 12 months at this dose or increase it to .5mg ED? Doctor recommends that I should not lower my DHT levels any further as they are below normal range from just .25mg.
Also note that 17 years ago when I first tried finasteride at a higher dose of 1.25 ED I had full blown gyno in which I had to have the lump and tissue surgically removed. Also had the typical mild sides as well which discontinued when I came off the medication.
My hairloss has been incredibly slow over the last 22 years: Was a NW2 at 18 - 25; NW3 at 25-35 followed by a thinning crown from 35-40.
Is it typical that results take longer to show in older men with a long history of thinning? Stay on same dose for longer or increase?
