I turned 17 earlier this month and for the past two years I've been obsessing over my hairline. I've linked some pictures with my face covered as I'm really self conscious about this and can't help but compare my hairline to my friends perfect hairline and it really gets me down. How bad do you think it is?

Since I'm young(ish) I thought I'd finally start doing something. So far I've chnged my diet masturbate much less and massage my scalp with cocunut oil once a week. What else can I do to slow this down

Thank you

It is hard to say this but yeah there definitely some recession there. The pictures are bad quality to its hard to say how bad it is but right now you appear to be moving beyond NW2 territory which admittedly is worrying given your age. What is your familiy history like?

My dad is bald and my brother is basically bald.
None of my uncles or cousins are bald tho.
What do you think I can do to change or reverse this? : (

Unfortunately none of that will do anything for your hair. I would look into minoxidil and nizoral currently and see a dermatologist in the future about advice for finasteride, which is very effective at retaining hair. (you're still too young currently).

You have fairly hefty recession for somebody that's just turned 17. Given your family history you are in real trouble as you could go bald very quickly.

How long do I have until this becomes noticeable because I can currently cover it up as you can see from the first image, I'd Be able to get minoxidil and nizoral when I go to uni next year when I'm 18.

Also do you think I'll be bald next year, I'm really scared I'm going to be bald for uni and its really going to affect my life there.

Is your crown area okay?

I started going bald at 16, immediately jumped on finasteride and minoxidil. It has kept the bulk of my hair

I see very minor thinning in the center.

Yeah man, finasteride and minoxidil.
I really do want to die, I see everyone in my school with perfect hairlines and I just hate how this happened to me. If it happened when I was like 25 I wouldn't care as much but it's really going to affect the rest of sixth form and university, and I don't have the money to buy finastsride or minoxidil

I have no idea what to do

You can get generic minoxidil online incredibly cheap. Nizoral is also cheap as you only need to use a pea sized amount.

You could consider finasteride at 18, just make sure you read up pros/cons and sides so you're well informed.

The 'big 3' as mentioned could buy you another 10 years or more of fairly decent hair. Your hair looks pretty good at the moment And is well worth salvaging. Without treatment? Nobody can say for sure how long you'd have but your family history and current state is quite worrying.

Sorry you have to go through this at such a young age.

Any recommendations as to the products, like percentages and stuff, I've got like 30 quid in my bank left from my birthday and some Amazon vouchers (£100 worth) that I was going to save for games but oh well.

Thanks

I hear ya man, I wanted to die too at 16 when it happened. I was angry at myself and my horrible genes. Start minoxidil and finasteride, it will save you.

I'm sorry to hear this little buddy :( There is a lot you can do though at 17. You can buy cheap generic minoxidil online like others suggested, but beware as its a lifetime commitment and stopping after a while could leave you very bald.. So I would stick to using it just once a day. Also add in a cheap 1.5mm dermaroller to help with absorption. You obviously can't use finasteride right now, but you can substitute it with Saw Palmetto, which is a cheap, weak and natural DHT inhibitor. When you hit 18 definitely get on finasteride though.. Even if that doesn't work ( it didn't for me ) there are more unorthodox treatments available which can be extremely effective.

Minoxidil is an over the counter medication. You can go to the store and buy it, they have it in both foam and liquid. I personally recommend liquid. Make sure you get 5% and not 2%.

Finasteride, you or your parents need to make an appointment with a dermatologist. Go to him, tell him you're concerned about your hairloss and make sure you know the potential side effects of the drug. Hopefully he'll prescribe it to you.

Many young people that went through hairloss had a difficult time getting finasteride prescribed to them by overly cautious dermatologists. Let me know if that happens to you. I didn't even know finasteride existed until my dermatologist instantly prescribed it.

The more I look back at it, the more I realized how lucky I was. You can catch your hair loss early, as I did mine, and I was a year younger than you. There's hope. Good luck.

OP please do not be alarmed. While it looks like you may have mild recession, nobody can tell you for sure if it will be a problem. A lot of people on here tend to say things ABSOLUTELY.

What ages did your brother and dad bald at?

Massaging your head is something that many people have found helpful (you said you were already doing it), usually you should do it around 20 mins per day maybe 3-4x per week, oil is not required. You should do some mild stretching of the skin, kneading of the skin and pressing,

As others have mentioned, applying Minoxidil is something you should use (foam is best as there is very little irritation and it is easier to apply). It can cause severe shedding at first. For many people is does wonders.

When you are older you can reassess and see if you even need to use Minoxidil anymore or if if you should also add Finasteride.

You are not guaranteed to go bald, just be vigilant. Right now your hair looks fine and it is not noticeable to being an issue.

Hi
Thank you for your lengthy response, glad to hear massages help, I've been doing it once a week so I'll increase that to 4 and hopefully I'll see a difference.

I just ordered a three month supply of minoxidil 5% today from Amazon and it's the foam version. I'm all really new to yhis and so I'm watching videos as to how to apply it best.

In addition I bought a nizoral shampoo and a 0.5mm derma roller and also am looking at routines as to how to apply it and stuff.

As for finasteride I'm 17 right now but I'll consider adding it when I'm not 18 and in uni.

My brother started to thin at my age severely my dad had a full head of hair in his wedding pictures when he was like 19 and I think he lost it when He was like 24. But NONE of my dads brothers are bald and he hasn't 5 brothers and the same on my moms side.

Again thank you your reply really does mean a lot

Mild recession? A Norwood 2+ at barely 17 with that family history is absolutely cause for concern. At that point you haven't got much room for manevour. With hair loss you can't be too vigilant.

Glad to see you are doing your research and have made a sensible plan OP. Persevere and you could hold onto your hair for a very long time.

With the 5% minoxidil foam, nizoral shampoo and 0.5mm Dermaroller, how do you think I should set out a routine.

I wash my hair with shampoo twice a week and condition once a week so I've cut down that side and I take cold showers and have been for months now.

Integrating the products would you recommend the minoxidil twice a day or once a day and how many times a week. Ive googled it and everything but everyone has different routines and they are always like mid 20's which makes me feel like crap if I'm honest.

Final question I'm confused about dermarollers. Some places say use minoxidil WITH a dermaroller but others say wait a minimum of 12 hours. I don't know what to follow.

Thank you for the replies they really mean a lot. I hope this works and I get through this.
