Just wondering for those that noticed improvement at 2 to 3 months on finasteride, how things went for the next few years. You are known as 'good' responders, so just how good did it end up?

I'm only six months in, but I noticed improvement at around the three month mark, and it's been gradually getting better, so hopefully it's good news.

Believe it or not, I started seeing results at 2 months and at little over 4 months my entire crown had filled in. I am coming up on 2 years now, and my hair has only thickened and retained the same (full) coverage. I don't have any good pictures of my hairline, but it thickened up quite nicely as well.

So yeah, I quickly obtained results after 3 or 4 months, further thickening to maybe the 1 year mark, and held at that point coming up on two years. I haven't noticed any increased shedding or thinning whatsoever.

Below are pictures of my progress for comparison. Yes, my hair was longer in the first picture which exaggerates the thinning a little bit, but it's still quite representative of where my hair was at.

Not at all Kirby. The FDA trials for Propecia showed most people didn't start seeing results until 1 year. Has your hair loss started to slow down at least?

I've heard many people say they didn't have results for over a year, and getting close to the 2nd year is when they started seeing growth. You need to be really patient, unfortunately.

Tom, Merck suggests that people should discontinue after 1 year of use if there has been no response. I personally feel it should be 2 years, because I have seen people report they saw results during year 1 and year 2.

There isn't any evidence that suggests finasteride can actually speed up your hair loss. You may just unfortunately be going through some aggressive loss. If you had not started on finasteride when you did, chances are you would be in a much worse position now.

If you are tolerating the drug without issues, there is no harm staying on for another 10 months and gauging your results. If you haven't already, take some good pictures of your hair now, and compare (with the same hair length) every 3 months to see what's going on.

You can also consider another 5ARI, dutasteride. It inhibits 95% of DHT versus 65% like finasteride, and is shown to be much more effective than finasteride with basically the same safety profile.

Best luck, hopefully you seen some results soon.

My hairloss is aggressive anyway so I don't see how finasteride would make it worse, people with slow hairloss are mainly the victims, maybe you need to start it slow with every other day

I saw results in 1 month....

Stopped shedding in 3 weeks.....

Then again i had to stop cause of severe brain fog at 3 months, so i guess being a good responder has its downsides...
