23 Year Old - NW5, Is there any point trying?

Hi,

I'm 23 and have been balding since I was 18. It's been pretty rapid the last year or two, and I would guess I'm at a NW5. Toppik does a great job, but that wont last long as the crown is very very thin (so is the front). All the men on both my Mother's and father's side of the family are bald on top.

Things like scalp pigmentation may suit me due to my skin tone, however that seems very extreme. I think I'm too young for a hair transplant, and I don't particularly want to be hidden away or let people know I've done it. I think I'm too far along for what I think is a FUE transplant.

My question is, I would be fairly happy to maintain my current hair and just use hair concealers. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing. Would you recommend things like regaine? My main issue with things like that is the shedding. I can just about get away with concealers, if the crown hair sheds I'm screwed.

I am not worried about product side effects other than shedding.

Are there any long term options for me seeing as it's hereditary?

I'll be honest, I have been working for 7 years and saved most of it as I live at home. My hair, or lack thereof, is really getting me down so I have no qualms using the money for an excellent treatment.

I'm in the UK if that helps narrow down possible routes of treatment, and I've read a lot on this forum about avoiding clinics in the UK like Belgravia etc. I'm going to follow this advice.

Any help is appreciated. I've left it late, but I don't think there's a better place to ask if my hair is salvageable. I can post pictures if required a little later.

Thanks!

He says he just wants to maintain, so I would say go for it and try to treat it. Treatments are pretty affordable and if they don't work then he can always just stop. I would expect a shed though.

Not maintain, I was talking about a FUE. If his relatives are NW7, it could be a good idea to maintain if he wants to take the hair transplant route.

Yup, hair transplant to improve a NW5 will take less donor hair to improve a NW7...and it will take less money.
