Hi guys,

I first just want to say thank you for this community. It is wonderful to see the internet put our collective minds together to figure out the problem of hair loss. When a universal solution comes out, it will impact so many.

I am 24--25 in 4 months--and I'm concerned I might be experiencing a receding hair line. I saw a dermatologist about this, but she said it was likely my hairline was just maturing and it made me look more like a man, plus medication was expensive and too early for me to try at this point. But she wasn't sure--she said keep an eye on it and come back if I notice any more loss. I also submitted pictures to a mobile dermatology on-demand service and the doctor said from the pictures he suspected I might be experiencing male pattern baldness. I want to be proactive and nip this in the bud if it's the case. However, all of my mom's family has their hair except for one cousin who shaves his head, even those in their 70s. Furthermore, my half-brother--10 years older, through mom--doesn't appear to have any hairloss. My dad isn't experiencing loss, only recession with age.

The problem is that I've noticed receding corners beginning at about age 22 that are prominent from the side views of my head, while the front hairline has been very healthy and consistent. I've noticed these in other individuals (mainly latino and middle eastern ethnicities--I'm both), but most people seem to have these spaces filled in or more dispersed hair loss.

Before I go on further, here are some pictures from November: http://imgur.com/a/BwUN8

Here are some other factors:
  • Nutrition: I do have white spots on my nails indicating some kind of deficiency (Zinc?)
  • Sleep: I am constantly sleep deprived and suffer from insomnia about one time per week--it's awful
  • Skin: I do tend to have dry skin and every now and then I will get dandruff
  • Regimen: In the last month or two (prior to taking the above picture), I've been taking Folliform (Saw Palmetto w/ other ingredients) 2x/day and Biotin 1x/day. I read this might take another month or so before I notice it affecting my hair growth (due to the slow cycle)
  • Marijuana: I first noticed and became paranoid about my hairline when I was smoking non-stop for about a year. I wasn't using a vape and was using a pipe. I've read about MJ's hypothetical effects on hair. I smoke much less frequently now (as of four months ago), but I suppose I should give it up entirely and then see the effect on my hair growth.

Should I go see a dermatologist about follicle miniaturization?

Any tips or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

good density, but it seems you lost some of your forelock along with your temples. im where you are + diffused thinning so id say now is a good time to act!

me and my friends smoke daily and maybe only 50% of us are experiencing male pattern baldness to some extent, mairjuana has no effect on hair, actually if it "increases estrogen" as some people say, this would be beneficial.
