Hello guys,

I have been noticing lately that my hair as been thinning in the front .

I was thinking it could be dandruff or a product i have been using, or shedding due to stress since i have been having a pretty hard time lately.

But I have started to accept it might be Androgenic alopecia, both my father and my mother have a full head of hair(in their 60s) but my fathers hair has thinned out significantly and its possible that these are the early stages of it for me .

At the moment i think these are the very early stages, i can hide it if i comb it in a particular way. But i want to start a regime that improves it and most importantly slows it down.

In the second image I can kinda hide with the right haircut , but i know its there still under the hair.

Thank you in advance for your help

My main worry is that this thinning could be a percurssor to norwood 2 and I will start seeing my hairline receding on the sides .
Wanted your guys opinion,if possible, on how bad the thinning is at the moment.

This was seven years ago when i was 20
But i also had longer hair.
I am gonna see a dermatologist for my dandruff problems this month and check in with him what might be causing this thinning.
its quite confusing because i have recent photos where it looks quite full , so it depends on the angle , they way i comb it if its wet or dry etc

This is a photo i took 6 weeks ago when i had longer hair and it looks natural I think . But the way i combed it might be hiding the thinning underneath.

Like a post I commented on to someone else about 1 hr ago, I don’t necessarily see thinning here either.

Again, I see fine dark hair contrasting against light scalp when light is focussed on the head. Plus camera exposure making it the reflection off the scalp more pronounced.

The only area that looks like it might be thinning is your forelock, but the hair is wet and clumped together so it could just be that.

What has triggered you to think you’re balding?

You mention your father is thinning - where on his scalp is this? Is it in his forelock?

I think its because its wet .
I think i had noticed some thinning but its possible it was just more contrasting also when i had a longer hair
I thought i had noticed some thinning around the front but Im starting to think im being paranoid and this is just the normal hair part on the right side.
This is how it looks dry from the front

The side is just where scalp shows because the hair changes direction together with the round shape of the skull. Perfectly normal.

Went to my dermatologist and he confirmed i have androgenic alopecia.
I am still norwood 1 at 27 according to him but he noticed i have thinning on the vertex and sides.
I guess i got lucky it progressed so slowly at least.
Im going to hop on finasteride and minoxidil.

Good you caught it early
This is very scary for me to be honest . Have to be on finasteride for the rest of my life.
It was hard to swallow and i feel weird . But yeah thankfully i caught it early.
Thats the good news .

Good for you, at least you went. I am surprised though about the thinning on the sides - never heard any hair loss expert mention that AA affects the hair on the side of your head - that is normally considered the safe zone. Plus your crown looks so full on the photos. Did the derm use a dermatoscope to examine your hair follicles up close? Anyway, at least you have taken action, which is good news.

Thank god you went to the derm. It's obviously diffuse thinning, but for some reason a lot of people here in the forum denies this pattern.

I have very similar hairloss as you, but also on lower sides and back. finasteride usually don't work for DUPA so I really don't what to do. I think I'll just stop cutting my hair

Dupa is exactly what i have and i didnt even know the name.

My crown are is perfect but my sides and the front are starting to thin, seems not to be the classic male pattern baldness pattern in which the crown thins very agressively.

Fina could help in theory because its still an androgenic/ hereditary condition related with DHT shrinking follicules.
I will start taking it and see how i react to it.

He used a dermatoscope yes. He was probably able to see the folicule minituariziation althought at this point its not very noticable in general looking at my hair-

I have actually had people IRL point out my hair was thinning/ i was starting to get hair loss and i was still in denial.

This even happened in a date once and i said it was just my hair whorls. And to be honest it was a weird thing to mention in a date anyways by the other guy:/
