8 days post op

I am 8 days post-op with Dr Armani for 3300 grafts from strip technique. I have been back to work since 6 days from surgery. I've been wearing a knit hat over my head because that is the only thing that I can wear that covers both donor and recipient areas and works for the job I have.

I am using this thick vitamin E oil twice a day. It seems to crust up. When I take my hat off, the some crusted up oil is on the inside of my hat. On occasion, the crusted up oil may pull a hair with it.

1) what purpose does the oil serve exactly, is it for the health of the transplant or just to more quickly get rid of the scabs? Could I get a away with not using it?

2) If hairs are coming out is it possible that the roots have already been set in place this shortly after the surgery? If not, how long does that typically take?

3)when typically do the initial hairs transplanted fall out as a whole?

I am worried that I am screwing up my grafts.

1) don't know, not a lot, i don't think vitamin E is used by all hair transplant surgeons post-OP, and if so, not for as long as Armani wants you to use it. PITA, i didn't use it near as long as he suggested

2) i've read a couple of weeks somewhere. don't know though

3) 2-4 weeks.

My guess is that the vitamin E is suggested for the healing of the epidermis. Most docs suggest a post-op spray with Graftcyte (copper peptide) or saline spray applications post-op. Vitamin C can facilitate healing of the soft tissue (dermis) and am taking 1,000 mg daily. What the body does not absorb will be passed through one's urinary tract. In one month I plan to cut it back to 500 mg per day which is my normal regimen.

Most of the shedding of graft hair will occur around one week post-op and shockloss can set in as well usually three to four weeks post-op.

The hair stubbles within the grafts usually comes out with the crusts. The follicles are well seated and are not lost. You just have to wait three to four months to begin to see the new growth. Some of the grafts will just take off and continue to grow because they remained in their anagen (growth) phase and did not enter telogen (resting) phase yet.
