I just turned 22 and I'm about a nw3 with a receding hairline, and it's receding fast. My current regimen is:

- 1.25mg proscar a day (5mg cut into 4 pieces)
- nizoral 1% every other day (gonna run out soon and I heard they stopped making this shampoo)
- rogaine in the morning and lipogaine at night, only on the hairline
- biotin 5000mcg a

So far I am getting very weird results. In the past month my hairline has been receding and thinning like crazy, especially on the temples, but also seeing tons of baby hairs where my hairline used to be. I'm fairly certain that these hairs are getting thicker, but very slowly. The hair on my temples are a bit thicker than the hairs in the middle of my hairline. Is it possible that this is just a bad shed and do you think it is possible that these baby hairs will turn terminal? If my hairline is ****ed, I'm just gonna get a hair transplant in a year or two :/

I would just give it more time if I were you. 5 months just isn't long enough for most people to see any real results from these treatments. Sure, there are the lucky few who seem to be very fast responders, but it seems relatively normal for any noticeable results to take a year (or longer) to appear. Also, since each person is different, the treatments may merely halt your hair loss. Remember that this is still considered a success, as male pattern baldness is progressive.

I am 27 and I also have a receding hairline (Norwood 2.5ish). I've been on the big 3, plus biotin (5000mcg) for about 10 months now. Like you, I also noticed vellus hair sprouting up in greater numbers around the temples. This also happened relatively early on. Over time, I think that these have gotten slightly thicker and greater in number, although they are still not terminal hairs and nowhere nearly as thick as I'd like. I can only hope that the time and treatments will continue to work as they should, but there does seem to be something going on, which is a good sign. I plan on giving the treatments at least another year before I make any sort of calls about a transplant.

Anyway, the bottom line is that you should really give it more time. Plus, you are really young and I doubt many hair transplant doctors would, in good conscience, advice you to go through with a transplant. Hell, I turn 28 in a month and I think I'm even too young. The general consensus seems to be that you should wait to you are near 30 before undergoing a transplant, so you can have more of an idea of where your loss is going and you won't have to have multiple procedures by the time you're in your mid 30's. Just something you should consider. Good luck! Keep us posted on your results. Take pictures every 3-4 months to document the progress. If you're looking at your hair every day to determine the efficacy of the drugs, you're not going to be able to accurately assess whether or not it is working.

Thanks for the response! My hairline is so much worse than it was when I started, but I've noticed my itch at the hairline has been going away, so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

I know that I'm way too young to get a hair transplant, but I can't stand knowing that my youth will be ruined by balding. Not to sound like a narssisitic douche, but I used to love looking at myself in the mirror. Sometimes I would feel better if I was feeling depressed. However, now everytime I look at myself I can't stand how my hair looks. I used to be able to just comb it and put product on it and it'll look fine but it's past that stage. Ok I'm narssisitic.

Every piece of hair that I see fall feels like I got punched in the gut. I guess I can't really do anything but wait and hope my treatment works.
