A Newbie Who Would Really Appreciate Your Advice.

Hi all. This is my first post. I am very aware that people who join various different groups often ask the same old questions that have been asked many times before and don’t always bother reading the admins pinned posts. Well I have. In fact I’ve studied the forum as much as I can but there is a lot of information here and many different opinions.
I’m 51 years old but very fit for my age and look after myself. My hair has been gradually thinning for many years now and I’m at the stage where I either shave my head or do something about it.
After thoroughly reading about the various products I have decided to start with what they call the ‘big three’ apparently. Propecia, Rogaine and Nizoral, unless I am persuaded otherwise. Do you think this is a good combination?
In the admins post it was suggested that these products have had the most testing and the best results so hopefully I am on the right track here.
I would be very interested to know where the best place to buy these products is and if it’s beneficial to buy them all from one place. I live in the UK.

Hi Buster. You're lucky to get to your fifties before being hit hard by the balding gene. I'm based in Ireland. I'm on a version of the big three. I ordered finasteride recently from alldaychemist which is in India. It's half the cost of ordering in the UK. Previously I was getting it from either DrFox or Medexpress which are both UK-based. Just got the indian delivery recently so haven't taken any yet but by all accounts they're reliable and legit. I order my minoxidil from biovea.com which is pretty reasonable. It works out at about 50euro for 6 months' supply. If you look up kirkland minoxidil you will find their site which will sell you about 12 months' supply for 60£. I haven't tried the kirkland but many people seem to use it and it gets good reports. For Nizoral, I've bought it locally previously. This year I've started using alternative shampoos. Currently I use Foligain advanced shampoo also from Biovea. I use it once a week and use avalon organics biotin shampoo on alternate days. There are different options. You could try Revivogen shampoo. I plan to use that in the future instead of the Foligain. Also, Revita/Regenepure. These get good reports from users. That's my tuppence worth.

No problem. I'm just summarising the common approach many have taken. Also, you could consider derma-rolling. Many people seem to be adopting this approach. There are two ways you can do it. One is to derma-roll daily to increase absorption of minoxidil. This requires fairly light derma-rolling, just enough to redden the scalp. Then apply minoxidil. This is as per @Somebody 's method. I'm doing this. You would maybe do it once a day. I do it evenings about an hour before bed. Only takes a couple of minutes max. I use a 1.5mm derma-roller. You can buy them cheaply on amazon.

Another method is to use what's called "wounding". This is derma-rolling less frequently but more intensely. Some people do this about once a week/once every ten days/once a month. This is where you use the derma-roller to really hurt the scalp, not necessarily cause it to bleed but there may be some blood. You don't apply any minoxidil afterwards for 24 hours. You allow the scalp to heal. The regenerative process causes hair follicles to become active again (my understanding). I haven't tried this yet but am hoping to in the near future. I'm hoping to combine this with the other method for maximum effect. You will find many threads on this at the moment (big discussion ongoing on one thread).

Both these methods would be in addition to the big three.
