..So i started to notice hair in my hands in the shower about 3 months ago (10-30 hairs)... i started to panic, started to use nizoral shampoo and ordered Fincar... I decided before i started to use the Fincar i would go see a dermatologist to get some advice... He told me just to use Rogain and that should help keep my density and that since i still have thick hair i shouldnt start to use Finasteride and i could start that once my hair thinned out. I do still have really thick hair, my MBP has just began and is not noticable and i want to keep it that way. It would make more sense to me to start using Finasteride now so i could keep my hair rather than wait till it worsens... The only reason i really went to the derm was so i could get my blood work done (which i didnt do) as that is a pre-req to using finasteride.. anyways i am considering starting to use the Fincar (i didnt let the doctor know i ordered some from over seas).. I have a couple of questions and am hoping some of you guys could help me with anwers
1) is Fincar Legit
2) since i didnt get blood work done, what risks could i run starting on Finasteride
3) what would you guys do in my shoes? my hair is not noticably thinner now, but i would rather fight it now than when it is thinner...

Think about this: you're wondering if a medication you'll be putting in your body to create hormonal changes is legit or not. The fact that you have to wonder should be a warning flag already. Does it matter what anyone says? Will you trust your health to their opinion?

I think the risks and tests are more for AFTER you've been on it for awhile, when the Doctor will wanna check for liver damage. I didn't do blood work before I got a script, but I DID get asked to do it after a year or so (and was fine).

Tough call. Many on this site would tell you to go on finasteride right away, but I think that is short sighted as we are not totally sure if finasteride effectiveness decreases with prolonged use. I would stay away from minoxidil until you take the dive into finasteride.
You need to provide more information. Age? male pattern baldness history in family? Photos?

I am 24... Moms side everyone is bald.. my dads father had a full head of hair, my dad has male pattern baldness not to bad for his age though.. so i know its in the cards for me.. I want to keep what i have now for as long as possible, and hopefully there will be a better treatment eventually.. oh and there is really no point for me to put pictures up, i would just get yelled at because i still have basically all my hair... i have just recently started to see extra hair in my hands... and want to try to combat it as soon and as best as possible...

Take a peek at my avatar: it remains effective, but since there's still some DHT circulating around, the balding process continues after that 1-2 year peak regrowth - just at a much slower rate.

You'll always keep more hair for longer by starting sooner. But I agree, if you've barely begun balding, it's a judgement call on the expense vs. gains if nothing else.

But, if you can afford it, AND you're sure you are beginning to bald, why not halt it right now? Hell, if Propecia was available when I was a kid, I'd have started on it ASAP.

Both Fincar and Finpecia are perfectly legit.

re:

Brit,
How do you kow they are legit other then you trust what Cipla has to say? That is a bold statement with no backup.

Fincar and Finpecia are legit in terms of what them being a tablet containing Finasteride for treating hair loss.

Whether it works as well as Propecia is debatable but if all statements are accurate, it should work just as well.

The issue of legitamacy comes more from the online pharmacies based all over the world that supply these brands. There have many many cases of these pills being faked and packaged in fake blister packs/boxes etc.

It is this reason that makes buying your finasteride online more risky.

re:

I'm confused. Isn't fincar and finepecia produced by Cipla with no patent and no gov't approval. There is no testing, that I know of, that proves what is in the finepecia. Not to mention, Cipla does not sell the drug directly, at least in in the U.S. or England, so the only place to buy it is online which further questions the validity of the drug now that it is being sold through an online business with no checks and balances. Is the stuff legit, in the correct dosage, correctly packaged and effective, I would say yes, but that is strictly an opinion. Unless it can be proven scientifically, anyone who says the stuff is legit is making a guess, a very informed guess in many occasions but still a guess.
Does anyone know how we can prove with 100% certainty that finepecia is legit stuff?

Getting blister packs in an unmarked envelope from goodness knows what country is absurd in my opinion. Just spend the money to get a dermatologist evaluation and prescription. Then you'll know it's the real deal and you won't have to fret for a second.

Is your uncertainty worth the savings? Would you eat a cookie that arrived in a ziplock bag with no return address? Then why would you consume a pharmaceutical that arrived in a similarly nebulous manner?

The patent on Finasteride expires this summer and this will open the door to legit generic finasteride in the United States.
