Am I balding?

My previous thread was deleted for some reason :S Genuinely concerned here.

I have noticed what appears to be a balding patch around my crown area, although it may be a cowlick - I am not entirely sure.

Please find attached some pics, which were all taken today. Pictures 4 and 5 were taken after my hair was damp from hair styling gel.

I am currently taking medication for acne, which causes hair thinning and hair loss as a side effect. If I should be concerned about my hair then I will need to consult my dermatologist about that and my medication. What do you guys think?

you are balding. buy nizoral 2% and get on finasteride quickly. you will soon reach Norwood 3 vertex if you don't do anything.

I am only 21, this is really depressing. There is no family history of male pattern baldness. My graddad is 72 and has a full head of hair. And my father, 45, has only just started thinning but no Norwood 3 vertex. I have never noticed any extreme shedding, ever. I would only find one or two hairs on my pillow each morning. When this problem is wet, it appears to be more a line or crack than a rounded bald match, like a Norwood 3 vertex.

I thought images 4 and 5 were bad, but put it down to my damp hair. I thought it was a cowlick, or possibly double cowlick. After my shower this evening, it looks like this ..:

Yes you are thinning but to be honest its not that bad at all. Get on medication and you will be just fine.

You are also a perfect candidate for a hair concealer like nanogen. You might need to mix and match colours to make it blend in. A tiny sprinkle over your head and the thinning patch of hair will disappear and it will be completely undetectable.

I don't, possibly don't want to, believe I am balding. I think maybe its normal to see a bit of crown tho? Especailly if it is a cowlick. My hair on that area naturally stands up, which is why I am thinking it is that.

Anyway, I have an appointment with my GP on Monday so I will bring this up. Just needed my mind kept at rest until then. I am wary of the medication, as it has worse side effects than accutane, which is what I am taking for my acne atm.

You know it could be the fact you towel dry your hair is the reason you have lost some hair on your scalp, I lost a lot of hair on my scalp through insane towel drying when I was a young kid. It's amazing how I never noticed it, though it's really frustrating to me now how careless I/my parents were when treating my hair. It's only worse because the fact I have extremely thin hair, everyone in my family does, so its not like I got the short-end of the stick....but it makes me look like I have no hair and I can never stand it up without showing how thin I am on the back.
Btw have you always had your front like that?
Some people have the strangest hair line and can appear as if they're balding. I'm not trying to trick you or anything, **** I'm balding and it sucks....best you know, than fool yourself into thinking you're not...
Because one day you'll look at yourself in the mirror and see a few straggly bits of hair...

in your photos there is obvious recession at the temples and frontal area. be on the safe side and at least go on nizoral. you can only delude yourself for so long.

I apparently have a large cowlick on the back of my head, giving the appearance of a bald spot. The hair which should be covering the "bald spot" is constantly standing up, and when I style my hair, I style it to the right - which is the way the rest of my hair grows so it looks like a massive thinning / balding area when I have long hair. Now I have grown my hair for 6 weeks and due a hair cut, it wont be so bad when I have a short style. I have attached some pics, the last one taken in 2009 and it is present there.

Unsure on the my hairline. According to my family, that is the way all the mens hair grown and apparently it is normal for hair temples to receed 0.8 to 1.6 inches after puberty.

Any advice on how to get rid of a cowlick?

Hey I have almost the same thing on my vertex. My temples are similar but I think I have more hair on them. I was also wondering the same thing If I'm balding.

IMHO you shouldn't listen to those guys with 20 posts and rep 0. Let's wait for someone with more knowledge.

I'll post my pics since my thread is still to be accepted by an admin (If you don't mind)

We have the similar thing, don't you think? I got told today by my hairdresser that I'm prolly thinning

@wuek

Yeah, I agree its similar. Does the hair around that area naturally stand up and/or do you find its abit of an effort attempting to style it? If you do, then you possibly have a cowlick like me. Also, in males, temples recede 0.8 to 1.6 inchs naturally.

One thing I have learned from this is that cameras lie, get a couple of mirrors and check it out that way and you will see how it naturally looks.

Actually It's not big of a hassle to style it. The hairdresser told me I was thinning when my hair was spiked up with a gel, so some sticked to each other. Then after washing my hair and drying it she told it was actually ok but she looked like she was lying to make me feel better :( Now for 3hours I'm touching my vertex all the time to figure out if I'm thinning or not.

My dad went full NW7 but through diffuse thinning so I'm afraid it the most. He started thinning really bad at 50. The last thing he lost was his NW1 areatemples.jpg

All you can really do is the following, I am doing the same;

1) I have realized that the amount of pics you upload or stuff you type here won't help. Most people here are not qualified to judge OR will diagnose the worst in you because they are suffering from hair loss themselves. Dont panic, get a professional medical opinion.
2) Get some second opinions from different hairdresser's too.
3) Don't stress and keep an eye on it. If you have male pattern baldness in your family it may happen to you, but it wont happen over night.

Well actually I made a plan:
1. I'm already scheduled for a vist with a dermatologist on the next Friday
2. Tommorow buying Nizoral (i have some dandruff problems). Maybe it'll help?
3. Planning to buy Rogaine but first will wait for the ultimate male pattern baldness diagnosis

This is my plan for the next 3 months. Nizoral + Rogaine, if it doesn't help I'm hopping into finasteride. I won't lose my hair. No ****ing way.

Hey how are you today Andrew?
I bought today Nizoral and did my first hair wash with it. Also bought some anti hair loss supplements and took the pills already. I can't wait any more for my Friday's miniutarisation. I don't want to waste any time seeing my life being ruined by hair loss

I hope you're already acting too
