Am I too far gone?

Hey all, I'm hoping you can let me know if my hair loss is just far too gone to fix respectably even with hair transplant. I'm 27, started noticing balding at 21, and was NW3 at 23. I've been diffusely thinning ever since. I think the crown thinning is a more recent thing (less than 2 years) as I have some older pictures where it doesn't look like I have any thinning there at all.

I've now been on finasteride 1.25mg for 2 weeks, so obviously this pic is still my baseline. Jumping on 5% minoxidil soon too. I have a consultation with an IAHRS surgeon coming up soon, but I also wanted your opinion on if it's even worth it to pursue this avenue with the amount of balding I have.

A big consideration is I actually look decent (though worse than full head of hair obv) with a shaved head. I definitely do NOT want to look like one of those post hair transplant patients who still look bald but with sparse hairs sprinkled on their head. If that was my outcome and I lost my ability to shave it down to nothing because of a scar I would be pretty upset. Let me know what you all think, thanks!

BTW this is 2 weeks worth of growth so hair is about 1/4 inch.

Of course you're not. Hard to tell with shaved heads but seems to be plenty of hair follicles there to work with. You are really lucky you have as much hair left as you do considering how long you waited to start treatment..

You have lots of options. I think you are a good hair transplant candidate from your pattern. You might want to try meds for a long time (maybe a year to see any meaningful results) before you consider hair transplant tho.

Believe it or not I went out in New Year's Eve and saw a guy with similar hairline to you pulling of the Pompadur, was quite surprised. I wish you good luck and it's never too late
