Androgen receptor "degradation" by ASC J9

I've read claims about ASCJ9 that it degrades androgen receptors, and that this is better than merely blocking them. But what's the difference? Aren't cells constantly producing androgen receptors, and don't drugs like spironolactone irreversibly inhibit an androgen receptor?
