Just wondering if anyone else out there had bad hair even before they started to lose it. Personally I have always had very fine hair (hairdressers used to comment on it when I was 10 and wanted to get a flat-top but they said it was too fine!!!). I have also never had much in the way of temple hair (i'm talking about the parts that jut out from the side of your head towards your eyebrows). Pretty much straight up and down on the sides (which has always bothered me as my naturally high forehead combined with this anomoly gives my face a fairly...unflattering frame).

When I was about 15-16 though I started shaving the velus (fluffy) temple hair with a razor after I noticed hair on my arm grew back black after I shaved it due to a wound (though it was only black temporarily). Now I'm quite certain (should have taken pics) that this did in fact encourage new hair on my temples (the right side most noticeably) and have always wondered if it's a sound theory/practice to encourage hair growth (as many times I have heard that 'encouraging hair by shaving it is a myth').

Not really any questions to answer in the above paragraphs I guess, just wondering if anyone can relate to any part of it...

Cheers

Hi, I've always had fine hair as well and in fact apparently it took ages for me to grow any hair when I was born. I think it's been getting finer since age 20 or so hence my appearance on this website. I've considered the shaving option but never tried it, basically because I reckon you would have to keep doing it for lasting effects, and if you are regularly shaving your head to stop going bald... well you see the circularity.

Yes, I have had thin hair all my life. The lady who cuts it has always called it baby hair.It is that fine, fly away type. But it has always covered my head.I use to hate it for being so thin.I took tons of gel to who it in place. How little did I know that I would long for that type of hair again.I still have it,but it sure it thin.

I just started Propecia and Niox 1% if something doesn't give then I guess I'll get some of that dreaded minoxidil. However I'll wait at least 6 months before doing so.

This almost describes me to a tee. It really sucks having fine hair to being with. It makes coping with male pattern baldness that much harder.

Haha, I shouldn't laugh I guess considering where I'm posting - but I do take heart in the fact that most of us here can still have a sense of humour of sorts about our collective 'issue'. It also cheers me up to know I'm not alone in having naturally thin hair as well as genetically thinning hair...
My parents also told me it took a while to grow hair as a kid - I guess it's a hormone thing, I've always felt I've had some irregularities in my hormone balance but as some would know it can be f*&$ing difficult to get full bloodwork done just because you're 'curious'.

Well anyway, i've been on minoxidil (though am lazy with it) for over a year and Proscar 1/4's for about 1.5 months and I think I'm starting to see improvements around the hairline - my crown is a big issue for me though with my already fine hair. Fingers crossed.

I've always had very fine hair, and I started to lose density at age 20 or 21, and just really got worried about it after I turned 23 (I didn't notice anything unusual before then either, though in retrospect I can tell). I always figured that if I had thicker hair to begin with I wouldn't even be aware of a problem right now. I'm not sure where that puts me in the "potential for maintenance" scale, but I'm generally staying pretty optimistic. That reminds me, I need to take a 1 month (of finasteride) photo.
