Yes, hard water can definitely cause hair issues like dryness, frizz, and buildup. I had similar symptoms—excess sebum, shedding, and dullness—until I installed a filter

I know this thread is from a few years back, but it’s 2025 now and your post still holds up — a lot of us are dealing with diffuse hair loss, excess sebum, and dandruff, and hard water is definitely still a common trigger.

If your hair feels oilier, frizzier, or looks duller after rinsing, that could be due to mineral buildup from hard water. It can clog follicles and irritate the scalp, making hair loss and inflammation worse over time.

A few things that might help:
  • Install a hard water shower filter
  • Use a gentle clarifying shampoo (1–2x/week max)
  • Try shampoos with ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione for dandruff/inflammation
  • Avoid harsh products and overwashing
Also, I’d strongly recommend visiting a dermatologist or hair clinic for a proper scalp evaluation. Sometimes what feels like “just shedding” could be linked to underlying scalp conditions or hormonal triggers — and the right treatment makes all the difference.
