anyone use finasteride AND dutasteride at same time?

i'm a firm believer that desperate times call for desperate actions. Now maybe that's not recommended for certain medical reasons, but I couldn't count the amount of people I've heard of that went against common medical advice and it ended up in their favour. I wonder if it'd be good to use .5mg of finasteride(in a effort to lower side effects, but still you get good results) and the recommended doseage of dutasteride how it would work. Or even the recommended for both. Anyone?

Sounds really freaking dangerous to me. Have you started on Propecia yet? I recomend doing that first, give it a year and then if no side-effects occur and you arent happy with the results, try dutasteride. But I don't think combining the two right off the bat is a good idea. Not to mention, in a year's time there will be more data and user experiences to judge if dutasteride is actually safe.

yep. someone who just posted in the last 10 posts or so, have a look.

gotta admit, ive thought about dutasteride myself. i mean, it inhibits more than finasteride (although it also inhibits the other type of 5-alpha-reductase)... so surely it must be a better treatment?

has anyone got any info on test done on dutasteride, like the merck trials? why hasnt dutasteride undergone the thoroughness of testing that finasteride has?

good point though...finasteride and dutasteride...could it work better than finasteride or dutasteride alone? (side effects aside, theoretically for hairloss, would they be complimentary or make no difference?)

....ooooor maybe because the two drugs interact with each other they render themselves ineffective....

Haha, they might cancel each other out! But seriously, if you're taking dutasteride, there is no real reason to take finasteride. Dutasteride blocks more DHT than finasteride and so it would be redundant. It blocks the 5-IIR isozyme like finasteride but also 5-IR.

popping finasteride on top of dutasteride would probably make the tiniest difference if any at all i guess, having thought about it - seeing as dutasteride blocks so much dht.

question...why isnt everyone whos on finasteride on dutasteride instead then? is it because it hasnt been trialled to the same extent as finasteride? are there any trials for dutasteride avaiable for us to see?

Dutasteride clinical trial and pictures currently available

If you do some google searches for dutasteride clinical trials or go to the homepage you should be able to view current trial information. What I got from it is that there is postponement of the latter part of the trials. I read somewhere that the creators are afraid that the general public will view dus. as not being any different from finasteride., which is not true. The problem with dus. is the dosage; I'm not sure how much MD's will prescribe for hair loss, but to have more regrowth than finasteride (which was shown in trials) the dosage must be 2.5 mg. Dutasteride has been FDA approved for around two years now for prostate hyperplasia. Here are some helpful websites:
http://www.usrf.org/breakingnews/bn_112 ... eride.html
http://www.dutasteride.org/dutasteride/ ... esults.htm
http://www.regrowth.com/hair_loss_treat ... _info1.cfm

Hope this helps.

If finasteride has failed to reduce your DHT sufficiently to allow healthy hair follicle formation then surely 0.5mg of dutasteride would improve the chances of regrowth by dint of its higher level of DHT suppression. But you don't need to remove all the DHT from your body for regrowth so 2.5mg of dutasteride, or dutasteride and finasteride together, sounds like overkill to me.

hiya all,

I've been very keen on dutasteride for about a year now but was waiting and hopeing that there would be more feedback as to its effectiveness on forums like these. Most of the data/research on websites is years old (most of the stuff i could find anyway).

What we need is feedback from those people that have been on it for 12 months or more. Its been around for about 2 years now I think so there should be people out there who can give us feedback. unfortunatly the dutasteride thread in the "treatments" forums is old and doesn't contact much of this advice.

I've been on propecia for 18 months and while its stoped the loss, i can't help but thinking that maybe the dutasteride would give me some regrowth. However, I've also heard people say that it caused loss when the swaped from finasteride to dutasteride? Anybody able to assist??

Cheers,
