Anyone with an itchy scalp has had any success?

So the question is in the title. I'm asking this because I feel that as long as my scalp remains itchy, I can't get any kind of positive results, and would like to know if there's any truth to that? My scalp ain't itching 24/7, but it feels quite bad from time to time. There's also days when it feels really ok. I can't use Nizoral because it only makes the itch worse. Right now I'm using Finnish Shampoo called "Sebamed" (Ph 5.5, should condition the scalp), which the derm subscribed me.

Right now I'm on finasteride 0.5 mg per day and it hasn't done anything to relieve the itching. My hair feels really dry and brittled all around, not just on the balding areas.

I have pretty much stopped getting the itchy feeling on the top of my scalp. I think it is the finasteride, as I started Nizoral a month earlier and the itch didn't get any better until about a week in to taking Propecia. I am hoping this is a good sign :)

Yeah it really is, especially for a hairloss sufferer. I really don't feel like scratching my scalp in fear of more hairs falling out.

I'm starting to think that people with lots of itch suffers Scarring Alopecia and not Androgenetic Alopecia. If this is true then we have no chances because the follicle is destroyed and becames dead.

How can i stay positive with a disease like that? I thought scarring was a process like burn or wound (for example with a knife) but for my dismay that sh*t exists and its like androgenetic alopecia but with all the physical (and psychologinal) pain. And worse people cant recover from it. I wish i had normal androgenetic alopecia. I could take one million pill of finasteride, dutasteride, spironolactone or flutamide and save my hair. With scarring people have to think maybe its just male pattern baldness.

buy some sea buckthorn oil and tree tea oil, mix 100ml SBT oil with 25ML TT Oil.

Apply over night after minoxidil has been applied.

Rogaine foam completely stopped my itching.

Rogaine solution would make it worse and then better and then worse etc...

Occasionally I get an irritating itch, but I've got a really sore scalp. I've always seemed to have a sore scalp even when I was young. I do tend to wear hats often, so I though maybe that might have something to do with it.

I've noticed now that the sides of my head, where my hair is still thick are now very sore and strands of hair fall out easily. I don't apply any minoxidil to the side of my head, and I use 1% nizoral 3x per week. I thought the nizoral might help with my sorness but its still pretty constant.

IBM, how bad is your itch? 'Cause my itch ain't that bad most of the time, there's like 10 second itch attacks and then it gets better. I really hope that I don't have that "scarring alopecia" you're talking about... I've seen derm 2 times over last 6 months, both times he told that my scalp looked healthy and clean, so I think there's nothing to worry about in that aspect.

itch relief

Rotate the following:

1) Shampoo that contains Piroctone Olamine
2) Shampoo with Tea tree oil and other herbs for inflammation

Have you tried T-Gel for your itch?

I had an itch for a long time while on finasteride, it got better after more than 1.5 years on it. And i did experience what I considered to be good results. The itch is even less pronounced and comes less often while on dutasteride.

I think that it is wrong to assume that it is a scarring alopecia if your head is itchy.

I freaked out about this a few years ago, went to a derm, turns out it was the topicals i was using...... scarring alopecia has some clear cut signs like circles of bald scalp....

we know that there is an inflammatory process in male pattern baldness, so lets address the inflammation.... check out pete's recommendations

I dont know you guys can call me crazy but my itch is where im losing hair and im losing hair in an male pattern baldness type fashion. Ive tried every shampoo in existance including t gel it might have helped for a few weeks but then it just loses effectiveness. Even rotating shampoos dont seem to help. Its funny the only thing that helped was saw palmetto. It made my head numb and i had sexual side effects. Thats why i want to start propecia only because I think in my case dht is causing the itch for me.

Have you tried NOT shampooing?

My scalp got irritated recently from a homemade caffeinated shampoo... I have laid off the poo's for a few days and now my scalp is recovering...

If you are using any topicals, have you tried stopping them for a few days?
