Little background: I started on Propecia in my early 30's and had phenomenal results. Unfortunately, about 3-4 years later my hair loss gradually crept back in. I'm now 38 and still on Propecia and thinking of switching to Avodart. I'm kind of scared to change anything thinking it may exasperate hair loss.

So has anyone switched from finasteride to dutasteride and actually had poorer results? I realize that dutasteride is stronger than finasteride so logically it shouldn't have any adverse effects (as far as hair loss is concerned) but just curious if anyone has a story to the contrary.

And, by the way, is there a generic available of Dutasteride? Anyone know?

there are people on this forum who have made the switch and it has not worked out. it just doesn't seem to work for some people just as propecia doesn't work for some. unfortunately there's no way of knowing without trying.

There are generic versions available but due to patents and depending on where you live you may only be able to get them on line.

another problem is that it might be the genetics simply being too strong for the medication. nothing you can do might help.

there's no way to really test to know for sure.
