I haven't decided for sure the best way to do this yet.
Joan made an offer some time ago in this forum. I initially declined that offer but now I think it
might be the best way to get some help from Joan. I would rather keep it in this forum so that it's
out in the open.
I'm not trying to hide my lyrics from everyone here. Indeed, if they are ever turned into songs then of course
I would want every person on Earth to see them. But the music industry is complicated. Composers don't like
lyricsts who release too much information where everyone can see it. I read somewhere that Bob Dylan's band once fired a musician just because he talked about a song prior to it being released. There's a reason for this:
Bands want their songs kept private until the songs are actually released so that the songs will have the biggest possible impact when they are released. If someone leaks song information prior to official release that info could become public and then everyone could already be bored of the songs before the songs are even released.
If it's regarding your song lyrics, I think others who are musicians offered to help you as well, and I do think their opinions would be more valuable. But, sure, I'll try to help you if you'd like. I agree with Roberto: It'd be better to PM me.
You also offered me your phone number once. I declined because I didn't want responsibility for it. But if I send you the few lyrics I've already sent out to get some advice (about different possible lines/words) I would want to be able to talk to you about the different versions of the lyrics. It would be best if we talked by phone while we were both looking at the lyrics - you on your computer and me on mind.
Also, I would like a promise from you that you would not share them with anyone. Anyone...even your husband...sorry. But if my lyrics ever become popular I will remember who helped me.

I don't remember who the others (musicians) were. And it would take days to go through the issues without actually talking. I don't know who else would communicate by phone but I don't want a lot of people's phone numbers. Also, you seemed to like the idea of a "Moulin Rouge" type of song so I think that you might appreciate it more than someone else. And if you appreciate it more you might be more interested in seeing it surface in the best possible version.

Will you promise you won't share it with anyone? It's important that the lyrics don't float around before a band possibly releases them. Bands can dump a member for releasing song info prior to release. The band would never know I PMd you with these lyrics as long as you keep it from anyone else. If you share it with even one other person that person could spread it around. You can't share it.
You can email me the lyrics, if you still have my email address. I promise I will share them with no one.
I still encourage you to take up buckthorn and the others on their offers. I would have no problem trusting buckthorn, and I think swingline and maybe Roberto were two of the others who offered their assistance. I'd trust them as well. I have absolutely no musical background, never played an instrument. I like listening to music, but that's it. I don't know how much help I'd be to you.
I'm thinking to PM them to Buckthorn too.
And you can help because you're a member of an important group. You're a person who likes songs. You're a member of that group. And you know what you do and do not like. So if I run a song by you with different wording you can tell me which wording you like best. I used to this with friends and gfs. And all lyricsts do. Paul McCartney used to have his bandmates (the other beatles) help him with lyrics and even music. So did the other Beatles. I don't have anyone to get advice from. All the greats had people they could talk to about this stuff.
I do like songs, but I don't feel that alone makes me qualified to critique lyrics. But I'll be happy to give you my opinion.
I'm not really asking you to determine if a lyric is good or not. That's not the point. The point is that a song is made up of words in lines. Like this:
Dog cat horse hat group
summer fall winter easter
eat snow drive walk run
stay go leave run walk
That's 4 lines for one verse or one stanza. The song I am talking about has 4 stanzas for a total of 16 lines. But in some of the lines I couldn't make up my mind which word or words to use. For example, in one case I could have used the word "If" or "When" and I can't make up mind which one sounds better where I wanted to put it. Anyone who likes music/lyrics could give an opinion about which word
they think sounds better in that spot. Also, there is a line in one of the versus that I'm not sure about. It's the last line of the second verse/stanza.
Also, to make it more confusing, I made a straight version of the song and a gay version of the song. So there's 2 different versions of the song. I'm concerned about whether to use the word "if" or "when" in one place and in another place I'm concerned about which of two different possible lines I should use.
