Baby Shower

My wife and I are having a baby soon, and the baby shower is in a few weeks. What is the etiquette? Do I have to attend? No other guys are invited. My wife said I don't have to if I don't want to, but I don't want to look like a dirtbag if I don't show because I have a couple of guy friends who just recently had babies and they attended their showers. Anyone???

First off, CONGRATULATIONS on your impending new arrival! That is most excellent news!

I think the men should stay away from the shower, and not attend. AT MOST, perhaps be there at the very beginning of the shower to greet and thank the guests for attending... and then excuse yourself to let the women have their party.

Then again, I have more traditional viewpoints on this, I'm also the type who ALWAYS opens doors for women, and ALWAYS pays for a first date unless the woman absolutely refuses to let me do so.

I know of couples who held baby showers together... I understand the concept, but I don't like it at all. Just my two cents.

CONGRATS!!! The Gardener is right. Unless it is a "couples shower" than you do not have to attend. Show your presence in the beginning and dip out.

A work colleague of mine (a woman) is having a baby shower. Her husband and his friends (all the male partners of the women attending the baby shower) are spending the day in the pub... ...I don't think they have been invited; in fact, I think they've been specifically told it's women only....

...so no, I don't think you're expected to attend.

Thanks for the advice guys. I talked to the wife, and I'm going to do the drop off and pick up thing. I'll show up, thank them for coming, and take off to watch football (it's at 1:00 on a Sunday too, how dare they!?). Then I'll come by for the end of it.

And yes, it's mine...although we were broken up right around the time the baby was conceived and I'm pretty sure she was banging some guy.

Kidding. And by the way, IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
