I have been on propecia for about 7 1/2 months and I feel like my hair has gotten worse. I have attached a few pictures before I got on propecia(May 1, 2007) and a few after being on it for 7 1/2 months (December 11,2007). Please excuse my photography skills the lighting on the the most recent pictures was not that great, so it actually makes my hair look like it is in better shape then it actually is. I am only on propecia, so suggestions on other things/products that may help my hair are greatly appreciated. Also, please give me feedback on how you think I have progressed/regressed.
I should also note that my hair was longer in the May 1st pictures.

Yeah, I agree. It looks the same. But, on a side note, you definitely have a hot bod.

Thanks for the feedback. The more I look at these pictures the more I realize that these different sets of photos may not be a very good comparison. In the most recent ones my hair is shorter and they do not show how bad my hair really is and unfortunately I have buzzed my hair, so I can't currently retake them. I am 100% positive that my hair has gotten worse. My wife tells me I am crazy and that I should get a life.

What norwood would you say I am.

Re: bdsander story - 7 1/2 months on propecia (pics included)

I am 26 years old. I started noticing a little receding in my hairline when I was about 22, but in the past year or so it has really become aggressive and my hairline has really started to recede. I am only on propecia and I feel like it is not maintaining my hair, because I constantly shed and my hairline has receded even more since going on it. My plan is to stay on propecia for a year and then go to the doctor to get his advice. My doctor had mentioned something about getting blood work done during my next visit. I am debating whether I should get on rogaine...Any feedback or suggestions?

I think i’m going to try rogaine and nizoral. I just have a couple of questions:
1. What exactly is the purpose of nizoral? Correct me if I am wrong, but is it just a dandruff shampoo.
2. I went to CVS and I was going to purchase a thing of nizoral, however I looked at the back of the box and it was only 1%. I've seen in prior posts that it seems that 2% is much more effective. Can you purchase nizoral 2% over the counter or do you need a prescription?
3. With the rogaine foam is 5% the best rogaine product out there?
4. What exactly is the process for applying rogaine? How long do you leave it in your hair? Should you wash your hair prior to applying the foam?

Thanks.

1. It's also a mild DHT blocker, but it's nowhere effective as finasteride.
2. I actually prefer 1% over 2%, 2% dries my scalp too much.
3. Foam seems to be the most popular choice nowadays and I find it easy to apply and I am having good results.
4. It is recommanded that you wash your hair before applying foam, and foam will dry within 5 mins after application.

GL!

Dude if you get on foam I'm pretty sure since you still have a ton of hair that you'll have exceptional results. I started off for 2 years with just propecia and now and very glad I'm on the foam... you just gotta be ready for the 1 month and 5 month shed but if you can ride them out I'm sure you'll be pretty happy.

I never had the initial shed from foam, I had a quite big one on Month 4 though.

I had a wicked bad shed at month 1-motnh 2 and then had great regrowth and then month 4-5 I had a really really bad shed and now it it coming back again. It gives me a heart attack everytime.

Thanks for the feedback.
Did either of you have bad sheds from just propecia? I have had some pretty rough shedding from propecia, so I hate to see what rogaine will do to my hair. I can handle a few sheds, but I just don't want rogaine to totally ruin my hair.

I am pretty sure I had the shedding from minoxidil, I never really had any shedding from finasteride alone.

Even though my hair is much shorter I took a couple of more pictures with better lighting, so you can get a better idea of what my hair really looks like.
Do you think rogaine will help? If so should i just apply it all over the top of my hair with focus on my temples.
Thank you so very much for your advice.

bro you still got tons of hair to work with, take finasteride and apply minoxidil, give it some time, you will have good results.

yeah i think rogaine will help. looks like nw2moderate diffusion to me. apply it in your temples but focus more on behind the temples, on the top of your head, because you're far more likely to see regrowth behind the hairline than you are on the hairline or the temples.
