Beards.
Gentlemen, they’re not just for hipsters and the homeless any more. While both dead sexy and totally awesome, beards are also a boon to your overall health. Researchers discovered that men with beards and moustaches actually enjoy numerous benefits including, but not limited to, instant handsomeness.
A study from the University of Southern Queensland, published in the Radiation Protection Dosimetry Journal, found that beards block 90 to 95 percent of UV rays, thereby slowing the aging process and reducing the risk of skin cancer. Got asthma? Pollens and dust simply get stuck in that lustrous facial hair. Additionally, all that hair retains moisture and protects from the wind, keeping you looking young and fresh-faced. What’s more, shaving is usually the cause of ingrown hairs and bacterial infections that lead to acne.
Have you tossed your razor in the trash yet?
To conduct the study, researchers left bearded mannequins, along with less attractive, follically-challenged ones, in the blistering sun of the Australian outback and then compared the amount of radiation absorbed by each.

Gotta love that study..

To each his own. I absolutely hate beards, esp. on younger men. If I go more than 2 days w/o shaving it bothers me.

The new "style" I see around here are completely untrimmed "Muslim-like" beards on Caucasian 20-year olds. It looks awful, IMHO.

Well I'm 25 and can't convincingly carry off anything more than very weak sideburns- I can't even do the 'designer stubble' look.

I don't really see how it makes you look young unless your beard is really weak and you end up looking like a kid trying to look old enough to buy booze.

I sometimes rock the 5-o'clock shadow, but I could never grow a beard, simply because I personally look dirty with it. And my job requires me to look very tidy, clean.

Some people can definitely rock beards, and look better with them.

As someone with dark scalp and facial hair, I love growing it out a tiny bit. I usually keep my facial hair grade 1'd. I will no-guard it when I want it really short for a client meeting or something.

I think the biggest thing (and this took me 5 years and 3 cute girls telling me) is keeping your neck shaved. I know that might come off as asinine, but I see so many dudes who don't shave their neck. It makes your chin more pronounced and balances out any asymmetric angles between the two sides of your chin. I've attached a picture of how I currently maintain my hair, just because I already had it taken for my Intro thread.

Since we're talking about hipsters: I really like having a 'stache too. Like, a thick, Tom Selleck-esque stache. For that, I still keep my neck shaved and the rest of my face no-guarded.

I, for one, feel blessed to grow thick facial hair. Should I continue to bald, I can't imagine it being anything short of a Godsend.
