Beware: Kirkland minoxidil

I don't mean to make the title of this thread misleading, but I would like people to beware of the evil flakes when using Kirkland Minoxidil 5% solution. I bought a 4 back of this stuff because it's so damn cheap. I just got finished with my third bottle and the flaking has been horrible. I'm using T-Sal, T-Gel, and nizoral and I still couldn't rid myself of flakes. So I ordered Dr. Lee's PPG-Free Minoxidil 5% and it's f*****g outstanding. This sh*t dries in about 10 minutes and has left me flake free since I started using it (6 days now). I'll never go back!!! I can apply this sh*t to my hair, which is relatively thick and about 2.5-3 inches long and no one can tell I applied minoxidil at all.

I just wanted to get this thread out there for anyone having flaking problems with Kirkland minoxidil.

I’m almost positive that Rogaine & Kirkland are the same! You’re just having a reaction to the Minoxidil. Keep up with the shampoos & keep us informed on your status.

Have been experiencing bad flaking as well but it has given me results in about 10 weeks so i will continue using it as my flaking is not really visible.

It's called, "Head and Shoulders" dandruff shampoo. All you need.

I use generic and I haven't had a flake since I started using it.

No need to buy expensive Dr. Lee unless you really need the quick drying.

Has the Dr. Lee stuff been proven to be as effective as normal rogaine?

Just wondering because i would figure with it drying so fast that it would evaporate some of the minoxidil or it wouldn't absorb as well.

Ive been using kirkland for 4motn now. Started off with those evil flakes but they slwly disappeared. I dont think its directly related to kirkland, its good for the price....

Jf: I never had that problem with Kirkland but, when I first started using topicals regularly, I put some Folligen on my scalp and thought it was going to catch on fire!! (I'm posting this for anyone who has scalp "problems")

I searched for answers and found many. They mainly dealt with getting my scalp in better condition, (you know, "more healthy").

ALOT of things can do that. Do a search and you'll find MANY ways to get your scalp in healthier condition.

Btw, the advice I read in my searches worked. (Things like, SODases, herbal treatments, oil treatments, etc. There are too many for me to list.)

For other guys: If you have to dilute your minoxidil. for the time being so be it. Don't let your scalp remain in "bad" condition. It's VERY easy to correct IMHO. Just be diligent and go at it from alot of different angles. Over time, (not that much time really) your scalp will get much more healthy.

Diluting your minoxidil. with 80 or 100 proof vodka (or even some distilled water) is easy and will help in the short term IMHO. It will be a weaker version than Doctor Lee's but 2 percent minoxidil. is pretty good stuff. Just use more of it if you want a "5 percent" dose.

I can now leave Folligen and Nano shampoo on my scalp for VERY long periods of time. No itching, nothing! No topical bothers my head any longer. (Well, I suppose straight gasoline would bother it, but you get what I mean.)

If I can do it ANYONE can. (You see, I'm 51 years old and, based on my searches, my scalp was probably in bad shape for 25 Go* Da** years!) :shock:

Exactly the same...even by the same company. When the patent runs out you don't want some other company coming in and offering the same product only under a different name and cheaper, so they do it themselves.

ive had bad reactions to kirkland minoxidil as well inthe past --made my scalp shred and their fall out like it was no tomorrow--which i never had with the cvs or walmart ones--i dunno..but maybe not all generic minoxidil r made equal?

Actually he's responding bad to the ppg in which the minoxidil is disolved in. Dr Lee's has no ppg therefore no flaking. I had to switch myself and highly recomend it also.

maybe im just wrong and unscientific lol--but my own common sense tells me that much of the shedding you initially go through is from the irritation that the cheaper alcohol based versions of minoxidil 5 % are made of--i found my scalp often literally shred from using it..forget flaking..not exactly a great environment for hair follicles
