...but not in a good way.

Ive only been taking finasteride for 2 weeks, and I never had any problems until the last 2 nights. I took my normal 1/5 proscar both nights and I dont know how to explain it but I started feeling a little strange in my head. Then I noticed my heart started beating fast. Not extremely fast, but enough to notice. I take it before bed, so I dont know how long the sides lasted because I fell asleep.

For anyone with knowledge of finasteride - should I continue taking it and ignore these sides, or should I quit immediately? Thanks.

It's probably the minoxidil. Read the side effects part of the insert, it is exactly what you describe.

finasteride does not act in the scalp. It acts system wide. You are more likely to feel a lack of tingle in the other head than a tingle in the scalp.

No I mean I felt weird like in my head like I was kind of dazed or something. No tingle. I use the minoxidil twice a day, and I dont have any sides from it when I put it on in the morning. If it was the minoxidil wouldnt I get sides from both applications morning and night?

I had that feeling too. Were your eyes kind of dilated as well? It's what happens sometimes when you jump on a new medicine. Only laster about 2 weeks for me, then went away

That's the infamous proscar brain fog side effect.

I get it too occasssionally - but not all the time.

It has done exactly the same to me.

I have only been on it about 10-12 days. I've had to stop. I was feeling really out of it and a just weird, basically. The nut-ache didn't bother me a bit, but I just felt weird to the extent that it was a little scary. Couldn't focus my mind completely and felt very deju-vu like. I stopped yesterday and still feel a little strange. It developed a couple of days after starting finasteride and was getting slowly worse.I'm hoping it will pass in the next few days as the drug leaves my system.

So with the "headchange" and increased heartrate, you guys think I should quit now or stay on it to see if it goes away? I can handle the head change, but the heart thing kind of worries me.

Stay on it. I got the head thing too and i occassionally get a fast heartbeat from my minoxidil applications. I have been on proscar for 2 and a half years now. Nothing worth worrying about in my case.

On the minoxidil instructions it says if you experience increased heartrate to discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. sh*t, I dont know want to do. I really dont want to stop now but that sounds serious.

maybe cut back to 1/2 ml of minoxidil instead of a full ml.

or cut back to 1 ml 1x per day instead of 2x per day?

apply to a dry scalp only - as applying to a wet scalp helps increase the minoxidil absorbtion rate.

try the 2% instead of the 5%?

Well I dont really use the dropper - I only apply it to my hairline, and I use a cotton ball. But maybe I should switch to the 2%.

i am only on finasteride and I have been noticing an occasionally speedy heartrate since starting it. It is rare for the most part, but wasnt there at all before starting the finasteride. Are you guys sure that finasteride would have nothing to do with the heart rate?
