can i receive prolonged/indefinite benefits from ONLY minoxidil?

...i am currently using ONLY minoxidil 5% for just over a yr now & am wondering if minoxidil alone can be sufficient enough to combat my male pattern baldness?

...Im 34 & "seem" to be responding well enough...

...any of you guys have any experience/knowledge about using minoxidil only?

from my understanding, different hair loss products work differently for everyone.
if it seems like rogaine is enough to combat your hair loss, then i'd say just stick with that.
no sense in speding more money on other products every month if rogaine alone seems to be working well enough for you.

Using a combination of Finasteride, minoxidil and Nizoral (the big 3) is the best way to get results BUT if your having good results with just minoxidil alone then stick with that. If at anytime in the future you feel the need to boost your regeime, try finasteride and nizoral.

In my opinion, topical minoxidil only provides an extra "offset" of growth, for as long as you use it; however, it probably doesn't interfere with the fundamental balding process, so you basically continue balding at about the same rate (although you do have that extra "offset"). To slow or stop the balding process, you need to use something which DOES interfere with it, like finasteride, spironolactone, or some other antiandrogen type of substance.

Theres very little evidence to suggest the body becomes "resistant" (do you not mean tolerant?) to any hair loss treatments. A more accepted theory is that male pattern baldness progresses to an advanced stage where treatments are no more effective. Remember minoxidil does nothing to address the underlying cause of male pattern baldness which is DHT. So any gains made by minoxidil will only be a temporary solution.

True. But this is simply because your hairloss has reached such a stage that the extra offset of growth acheived by Minoxidil is no longer providing effective cosmetic value. It is not because your body has in some way become "resistant" or "tolerant" to Minoxidil.

I can't accept your basic premise that minoxidil "becomes less effective after using it for about 8-10 years"; at least, not without scientific evidence. Although that _may_ turn out to be true to some extent, the available modest evidence is consistent with what Britannia and I said before; namely, that minoxidil provides an extra offset of growth as the balding process continues its merry way, and continues to do that indefinitely. Do you understand what we're saying?
