Hello, I'm new to these forums, and thought I would introduce myself.
I'm currently 28 years old, female, and losing my hair at the frontal crown. Lately I've noticed that it's started to thin over the rest of the top the crown now, too.
I'm also affected by hirsutism.
I started noticing that I had a spot, right at my bangs were at in my hairstyle, that was thinning. I first really noticed it when I was 17 years old, after getting my senior pictures developed. My hirsutism started after puberty, at ten years old. I'm guessing that my thinning hair wasn't too long after that.
Since then, I've had hormone level tests done, and thyroid, but everything came back normal and healthy. As far as I know, my hair loss is not genetic.
I've tried Rogaine with no success. I've also tried using henna as a hair thickener. Made my hair red and glossy, but didn't really do much for fixing the baldness, except dye my scalp orangey. I've tried a variety of homeopathic treatments that were said to be good for the hair, too. Vinegar rinses, beer rinses, poultices of nettles, lavender, and other herbs. Nothing has really helped.
I've been taking a daily vitamin, Nature's Plus Ultra Hair Plus. It has things in it like Biotin and MSM and lots of other hair-good things. It makes my hair grow faster, but that's really about it, I haven't really seen much thickening of the hair shaft, and I can't tell if there is any new growth from it in the balding spot.
I just read about Nizoral on the Hair Loss Website, and have decided to start using it. Maybe it will help to stop my hair fall.
I've also read a lot about Spironolactone. I'm interested in trying it, because I've read that it not only helps in hair loss, but it is prescribed as a treatment for hirsutism, as well. Killing two birds with one stone sounds like a great idea to me. But I'm still doing research on it, and so I'm going to see about waiting that one out until I have enough money to see a dermatologist who specialises in hair and hair loss.
Anyway, that's where I'm at right now. Thanks for letting me be here.
