I have been taking Propecia for nearly 10 months, but started using minoxidil too 3 weeks ago. My hair hs seemingly strengthened, but I have been getting uncomfortable chest tightness and weeziness, as I am a mild asthma sufferer. I really want to continue using minoxidil, but I am afraid of the long-term damage and pain to my chest.

Ryan,

Minoxidil is an anti-hypertensive drug and is given orally to reduce blood pressure. Definite signs of this would include edema, ie. swelling in the extremeties. Your chest pain may be caused by a lowered blood pressure. You may want to see a doctor about this.

I have been using Minoxidil for about 9 months or so and had only minor pressure in my chest and over that time, not very often maybe only once a month at first. Over the last few months I have noticed that my heart would beat out of sync for a second then return to normal. I have had this happen before I ever started taking any hair loss drug so it was nothing out of the normal to me. Then last week I started getting these sharp pains in my chest that followed with a feeling that someone was standing on my chest. So at first I thought I just pulled something in my chest, because I had done that before and the pain felt similar to that. I then realized that ever since I have been using Minoxidil I have been having more and more irregular heart beats and minor chest pains. At the moment I have not used the Minoxidil in about 5 days and I have not been having any real problems, just some continued very dull aching in my left shoulder and upper chest. I plan on going to the doctor if the pain is not completely gone by Sunday, because I don't want to waste my time going down their if a trip is not needed.

I would stop taking the minoxidil. The same thing happened to me a few years ago. There are lots of other topicals that you can use in place of minoxidil.
