Contradictions regarding Fish Oil and SHBG

Hi,

I came across misterE "40 steps to completely reverse M.P.B." and really liked it. I am currently taking fish oil, but after having read something on the posts I got confused.

Fish Oil is said to be good for hair. It lowers insulin resistance (insulin is said to lower SHBG). With fish oil, insulin levels are decreased, and reduction in insulin levels will increase the SHBG levels. But the contradiction is that fish oil also decreases SHBG.

I am not sure of this insulin resistance thing. Is that for diabetics or does it include everyone?

Isn't fish oil and flaxseed very similar. In misterE post I read that flaxseeds are used to lower SHBG. But I also read contradictory information regarding flaxseeds.. check this link:http://ezinearticles.com/?Popular-H...-Be-Taking-Causes-Faster-Hair-Loss!&id=807383

I would really appreciate any clarification.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike. It is important to increase S.H.B.G. because without it, you will have a low testosterone level (and high estrogen and D.H.T. levels). Certain types of fat in your diet determine your insulin sensitivity. Trans fat and saturated animal fat are the main causes of insulin resistance (pre-diabetes) along with corn syrup and sugar.

The polyunsaturated fat found in both fish oil and flaxseeds increase insulin sensitivity and reduces inflammation, it also forms prostaglandins; "super" hormones that regulate the sex hormones. Flaxseeds also increase S.H.B.G and at the same time, the lignans from the flaxseeds "knocks" estradiol and D.H.T. off of S.H.B.G. therefore increasing their metabolic clearance rate. Flaxseeds are also shown to decrease both insulin and IGF-1 levels!

I have been taking fish oil tablets everyday for a year and a half (not for hair loss reasons). My hair has not improved and my hair loss has not stopped. My hair is actually quite a lot thinner than it was a year ago.

My advice: don't bother with fish oil as a hair loss treatment. Use it for day-to-day health.
