Could finasteride cause some hair loss?

Well, this might be an extreme worry - and i'm kinda in panic from my hair loss recommencing - but has finasteride ever caused hair loss in anyone? The reason I ask is that my hair loss seemed to go dormant for a good number of years and it's only started up again over the last two months after a very stressful event about 3/4 months ago. Strangely, as even more time has passed the itching and shedding seem to be largely settling down so I'm sort of wondering should I maybe just leave it - could it really have just been a temporary reaction to acute stress?

But then I'm wondering would there be any harm (cost and other side effects accepted) in trying finasteride just to be on the safe side. So my query is if a man isn't losing his hair (and in all likelyhood I probably am) could taking finasteride needlessly cause harm to his hair or even actually lead to some hair loss?

I know, i know this worry probably seems mad... but in the panic i'm in I just have to ask.

Don't take it unless your sure your losing hair. Also some people have reported accelerated hair loss being on it with itchiness and oily scalp, although there isn't any genuine medical evidence to support it. There is "some" evidence of reflex hyperandrogenism in relation to androgen receptors which is what they are describing.

Either way, this is unlikely and you need to save your hair if you're losing it, not trying is a guarantee to lose more. If you want to go down the topical route look into RU/minoxidil combination.
