Criteria for shaving it all off

Okay guys, I still have most of my hair. My thinning started from my crown at around 16, and now that I'm 20, I'm diffused, but since I have generally thick hair, I can hide it pretty well. I can tell that my thinning is getting more and more aggressive (I think my temples are starting to go). I just want to move on with my life and shave it all off. Are there any pointers on knowing if shaving your head is a good idea or bad? The only reason why I'm worried is because when I feel my skull, I feel like there may be some weird lumps lol. Or maybe that's normal

Maybe you should go out and buy one of those bald caps that stores sell for halloween costumes. Just to give you an idea as to what you'd look like without a head of hair.

Buzz it with the #2 guard, if you're tanned with the 1#. Even with the #3 cut some people will react negatively so you can imagine what some people will be like when they first see you shaved. They eventually get used to so don't worry.
