Denied Proscar

I asked my Doctor to write me a prescription for proscar. He said he couldn't do that because that drug is for the prostate. Therefore that would be fraud. The only thing he could prescribe me was 1mg finasteride (propecia). Propecia is a rip off and I cant afford it. Are there any other generic versions of 1 mg finasteride? Or am I stuck taking my chances buying Proscar online... If that's the case, anybody know some "reputable" online pharmacies? Please help, hairline thinning quickly!!! :(

Do you have walk-in clinics? that's what i did. Not to get proscar, but because my real Doctor is too far away.

Your Dr sounds like a real idiot. It's not fraud to get proscar, I walked into my office asking for proscar or propecia and he chose to give me proscar for cost purposes.

Just go somewhere els, there can't be two idiots with PHD's within a few miles of each other.

Agreed with everyone here. Your family doctor should know that they're the same drug, and it does do things for the prostate; prescribing Proscar to you isn't fraud. Fraud requires him to derive monetary gains from telling you things that're not true. And in this case, your doctor would neither benefit nor be telling you things that're flatout wrong.

Buy it cheap online. You can buy a full supply of Fincar for around $100 and split them into 5ths. Inhousepharmacy.com, though I just got my first shipment in a couple of days ago and will see if it's full-fledged. It took about 3 weeks to ship.

Just curious. How will you know that they're legit until you take them for a year or two?

A PHD is not always a medical Dr

It's only fraud if you use your health insurance, just assure the Dr you are not going to do this

I guess to the insurance company I suppose if they did a follow up with you about covering the prescription.

To the original point, if you tell your doctor its for hair loss, its on the prescription for hair loss and for whatever reason your company covers it I don't see how its fraud.

I'm just taking the word of the people on this board. That's why I bought it. Without their recommendation, I probably wouldn't have.

See the issue is he could only prescribe me 1mg finasteride, simple as that. He was being very technical. If there happened to be a knockoff out there I could get that (much cheaper). However the only pill that has 1 mg finasteride on the market is Propecia.

Yeah I remember once my doctor prescribed me 1mg daily Proscar and my pharmacy rejected it since Proscar is only 5mg. So now he just does 5mg proscar with 2 refills a year.

I think I spend $72 a bottle....can't remember.

That seems about right cassin, mine is $79.99 canadian at the drug store. Huge savings compared to taking 1mg propecia..

I've often wondered if I could try and claim my proscar since it's labelled as a prostate treatment, but after reading through this thread I've realized it's not worth it in case they put it through and actually follow up on it. Might have saved myself a bad situation actually.

I claim mine, $20 for a years supply of U>S Generic proscar.

I'm going to be 40 though so someone my age taking it isn't out the norm but for a 20 something it could raise some questions.

There is still no reason his Dr can't write him a prescription for Proscar and he just pays whatever the pharmacy charges.

I have heard of several people who say they were using Proscar fro hairloss well before Propecia was available.
