I'm 17 and a few days ago I visited a dermatologist about my hair loss. So anyway, pretty much the generic just have to live with it, he looked at my scalp with a scope thing. Said I had healthy hair(really??, ok then). Asked about my family history blah blah blah. I mentioned I heard about finasteride, of course he said it wasn't a good idea and that it would femininise me. So yeah, I'm really stuck on what to do. Should I try minor and nizoral and see if that will hold my hair loss until Im a bit older?

thanks.

Dermatologists know next to nothing about hair loss. If you want real advice, info and help, you're better off, in fact, BEST OFF asking anyone who's been on gourmetstylewellness.com for a couple years or more.

They may be worthless but you still need to see one to get the legit script for finasteride which is still largely the only real treatment for male pattern baldness still. IMO the other big 2 minoxidil/nizoral arent going to save you in the long run without a finasteride in there. Some derms suck and some dont just varies a lot on how they view hair loss. I went to a derm and he asked that stuff and wrote me the script no problem. Said he had tons of guys on it, and it was really safe. That was like 6 or 7 years ago. I decided I didnt want to take a pill for life since my loss was slow/minor, and i would wait until it got worse

Derms don't know ****, start reading, knowledge is power :eek:nfire:

Hey Parisienne!
Just curious since you are someone from a non-US country like myself. Have you tried or used Pantostin/Alfatradiol? It is common in Europe and Latin America, was prescribed it when I visited family over X-mas. So far it is working a little bit, but like other medicines it takes a few months to see full results. Was trying to PM you this, but didn't know how exactly tbh.

You have to go only to a hair loss specialist. Regular physician or dermatologist will not be much help. Like many posters here, i've had the same experience. Either I know more than them about male pattern baldness drugs or they are just no help. male pattern baldness doesn't seem to be an important condition in the derm field.

A doctor once told me literally, that there's nothing I can do about male pattern baldness. I was 18. I got so mad because I knew that was not true and this guy was just clueless spewing nonsense. It's true what members say, you will actually learn more here in this forum than speaking to a regular doctor or derm.

Your doctor was uneducated on finasteride safety and was giving you the false information. Though maybe irreversible sides weren't as reported as they are now.

Buddy you should also stop your uneducated fear spreading. finasteride shows sides effects on a very few percentage of people. We should all go hide in a bunker because a meteor might hit us today!

Wise move? I'm probably you from 6-7 years ago, minus me not wanting to even waste money visiting a derm

Hi :) where are you from ? You can't pm me because you need to post several times first. And no, I haven't tried it because as a woman I can take oral estrogens and it's more powerful. But I'm sure this is a very good addition to a regimen as it stimulates aromatase activity. Keep going !

Oh, so that's why I couldn't figure it out. You'd think they would mention that when you signed up, haha. Makes sense that you wouldn't take it when you can do something more powerful. Probably shouldn't mess with oral estrogens as a guy. I haven't even wanted to try finasteride. Are you taking any estrogens?
I'd rather say where I'm from in a PM, not sure if posting my info in a public forum would be a good idea.

Honestly derms aren't gonna be much help. All they really can do is prescribe finnesteride, 2% keto, or recommened rogaine at most. Some might recommended laser therapy or prp but that's a stretch.

The derm giving you the finasteride script is all the help you need. There isnt much else they can do, but getting the legit script is worth it. Personally id rather get it from a doctor just because I see them regularly anyway to get refills. With the derm once he writes you that finasteride script he has you hooked to keep coming back to get refills. For me a doctor is cheaper to see.

We don't need a prescription for 2% nizoral. It's sold over the counter at pharmacies,so I can walk in and just grab it off the shelf. How come you guys need a prescription for 2% nizoral?

As far as finasteride goes, I went to see my family doctor, told her I want to try finasteride to see if it could help with my hair loss. She knows my health and had no issues giving me a prescription. No need to go see a derm.

I agree. In the US you need a prescription for 2%. CVS nurse can give you a prescription of finasteride. Maybe dutasteride? Either way is a racket you need to pay $60 just to get a prescription for hair loss BUT with my last prescription of finasteride I had to sign lots of papers about side effects. Most likely is a CYA moment.

hairloss is a subject noone knows much about other than DHT is the culprit so doctors/derms really arn't in a better position when it comes to understanding it then normal people despite their degrees. Get a finasteride prescription. It will not feminize you
