Hi there,
i went to see a dermatologist the other day. I've had excess shedding the last 4 month, on pillow, floor, bath etc. I also had itching scalp, red spots, burning. I had to go gluten free and i stopped using certain hair products and switched to another shampoo. It all seemed to start after changing my thyroxine band back to the old one, my skin got dry as did scalp and i felt terrible. I was on it for 3/4 months, maybe longer.
my hair is a bit thinner than it was but equally when i was 17 it thinned and then regrew. It has done this throughout my teens/20s. I am 29 now.
I've been diagnosed with underactive thyroid when i was 21, systemic sclerosis a few years ago, initial tests started when i was 20 and i also have a bad diet of either small amount of food but no fruit or veg or anything containing fructose as my stomach doesn't cope. Been to doctors, can only see gastritis but i think i have low enzymes as i get diarrhea/bloating etc.
the hair loss has been all over but especially bad at the back of the head.
when i went to see this doctor, she checked it and asked about my family and then said it was female pattern baldness. My mum has thinner hair but she is 60, went through an early menopause in her 30s and is ill with an autoimmune disease.
i told the doctor this and my brother also having thin hair but he has something going on with him too. I also told her that my diet is atrocious, I'm on thyroxine but had recently switched over to another brand and back to current one and that im ill. She Ignored everything i said and told me its female pattern hair loss, that the vitamins I'm taking won't help and that i should try regaine. She diagnosed me in 10 mins and i feel horrible, this hair loss has worried me and i feel i have no answers and she is just taking the easy option instead of finding out about my Ill health and diet etc. she also said i cant have hormonal issues as my periods are regular but i have fair hairs on face, a cyst on ovary and im constantly bloated as well as having painful ovulation and spots.
can anyone please help me? I don't know what to do now. Should i seek a second opinion? It's a 30 week wait for dermatology right now. I live in UK and use NHS
