Both DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) are effective techniques, but for Norwood 5 cases—which involve extensive hair loss—the choice depends on individual goals, donor area quality, and the surgeon’s approach.
At La Densitae Clinic, here's how we guide patients:
FUE is usually more versatile for Norwood 5 cases. It allows us to extract a large number of grafts (often 3000–4000+) over one or multiple sessions, making it ideal for covering both the frontal and crown regions. It's also more scalable if future sessions are needed.
DHI uses a specialized implanter pen for direct graft placement, which may help with density and precision, especially in smaller areas like the hairline. But for extensive baldness, DHI may not always be practical if high graft numbers are required, unless the donor area is excellent.
Our recommendation:
- For maximum coverage and flexibility, FUE is usually the better option for Norwood 5.
- DHI can be used in combination for hairline detailing or small zones if needed.
Each case is unique, so we always suggest a detailed scalp assessment before finalizing the technique.
Happy to discuss your specific case if you have images or a graft requirement in mind.
