Hi guys, I've been seeing this thing called 'mature hairline'. May I know exactly what is the difference between getting a mature hairline and male pattern baldness? Or is it just another name for the same thing? Thanks!

I think a "mature" hairline can be considered mild male pattern baldness although I don't believe it means a person will necessarily become bald. For example, take a look at some well known celebrities such as Charlie Sheen. He obviously does not have the same hairline now as he did in "Platoon" 20 years ago, but the rest of his hair is thick, and I personally don't consider him to be balding..his hairline pretty much has remained the same in his 30's and now into his 40's. Maybe he had some work done...who knows, but the point I am making is that it is very natural for a guys hairline to recede somewhat as he gets older, but can stabilize and stay where it is and he could go to his grave at 75 with the same head of hair he had when he was 35.

"Mature hairline" is caused by the same genetic mechanism that causes male pattern baldness.

Thanks for all the replies!!! So am I correct to assume that a mature hairline is something like a mild receding of the hairline, with some receding of the temples, while the rest of the head remains thick? And this amount of hair will more or less remain with you till u die?

For some, yes.

Even someone without male pattern baldness cannot expect to maintain the hair they had when they were 14 as opposed to 40...

Mature Hairline with NO male pattern baldness is Chuck Woolery. In the 80s on Love Connection Woolery had the same classic NW2 adult male hairline. If it hasnt moved in 20 years, its not gonna start tomorrow. No male pattern baldness here...
