Different hair suppliers

Many places are overpriced. Well, not sure about that since I have not seen the quality differences myself. Just guys saying their $185 toplace piece looked as good or better than their $2000 hair club piece. So going to hair direct or hair club is probably a bad idea.

The two least expensive places are Toplace, and Coolpiece. There was some other site called hollywood something or other that may be about $50 more than coolpiece. That site has 100% bleached, sealed knots standard. But once the knots are sealed, you can't change their color anymore, so hopefully they match your scalp. Toplace is 2/3 the price of coolpiece, but there are reasons for that:

Toplace pieces come standard with single strand knots in front, and double strand 2 inches behind that. So from normal distances, they look as good as a standard coolpiece. But coolpiece has all knots made from single strands, through the entire piece, standard. You can ask toplace to do all single strand, but I don't know the price, and their sales rep told me I can't tell the difference and should not worry. This may be true, unless a woman is looking at the hairs on your scalp while parting them. Seeing half as many outlets per square centimeter, with twice the hairs per outlet, and a bigger knot, probably does not look as natural. But it costs a lot less, and a woman might not even part your hair to look. I do know twice as many knots means twice the labor.

Coolpiece also claims to give you what you order, the first time. This is backed by posters around here, though I can't be sure. Toplace gets it right most of the time, but will work with you if it is not exactly what you ordered. I've also read a post on here from a trustworthy poster that coolpiece knots last a little longer. I got the impression of 25% or so since he said it was noteable but did not make a huge deal out of it. The people at Toplace allowed me to post quality difference questions there, and said i should not believe everything the coolpiece site says.

The guys at toplace say it how it is. But they are not the only ones: the people at coolpiece say that it is very difficult to get european hair, and that some places lie that they can get it, or are fooled themselves. Coolpiece is honest that they can't get a hold of it. that makes sense, since I'm sure indian women are much more willing to sell their hair than most rich europeans are.

So that is what I've read. I've seen pics of toplace pieces and they look great. I've not seen single or double strand in person, so I can't say what the difference is. I'd like to look at a stock piece and look for the 2 inch transition to see the difference. But I already think I will go with all single strand, 100% bleached, and regular swiss. I just need to pic the best color now.

And those toplace people sure do work hard. BA is online all the time. MOre than me! And they are honest. If I ask very specific questions they will tell me the limitations of their piece, even on their forum.

CCS,

For what it's worth Spencer Koban (sp?), the host of the Bald Truth, only recommends listeners who call into his show to Coolpiece. I sincerely doubt he is making any financial gain from it, so there may be a marginal increase in quality/consistency in cool piece's products like you mentioned.

Also, thanks for continuing to post any new info you come across. Very enlightening stuff. Have you ever considered writing a tutorial or FAQ after figuring out the ropes of using a hair system? Sciencedude previously proposed such, yet that thread of his seems to be dead now....

Good info, nice work CCS. Do you have any idea if the double strand effects how the hair sits, will the hair lie flatter than single strand?

i doubt it. It would just look pluggier, especially with the larger remi hair. I got a sample remi hair strand, and it was twice the diameter of my hair when I put them side by side. I'm sure that is partly because I'm going bald, so my hair is thinner than indian women's hair.

I read on Toplace that lots of guys there wake up with matted hair because the hairs are going in opposite directions. The discuss techniques on fixing that.

At coolpice, they use acid to remove the cuticle, which makes the hair a more normal size, and reduces matting. But I bet an acid bath is not perfect, and most likely the diameter changes won't be even. So I think even they would have some problems, but just not nearly as bad. Who knows, maybe they do a very good job. Anyway, with coolpiece, you get a lot more knots, which are smaller, for just 50% more money.

An advantage of Toplace right now though is they have custom pieces in 10 days. They also just go a super thin skin, thinner than anything else on the market, they say. Well, I don't know about the others. And BA says they got another cool thing coming soon.

But if you order from toplace, there is a decent chance none of the knots on your piece will be bleached, and all of the knots behind the two inch mark will be double strand, which is only noticeable if a woman parts your hair and looks.

Rush orders are $270 for regular toppers.

I don't see how we can compare them without seeing both. Do you have a high resolution digital camera? If you do, you ca post a pic of a close up of the piece parted, then I can tell you how mine compares to that.

Well we can take some digital pics...better than nothing. I'll ask a few people their opinion on how realistic it looks too.

I just gave my sides a hair cut. My hair looks so good. It is just the front 3 inches that looks terrible. I can't want to shave the front off and put my piece over it.

When are you planning on starting to wear your piece?
