Do I have an issue with my hair?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so apologies if this post is not in the correct forum.

I am 27 and seem to be receding a lot over the course of a few months. I don't have any family history of hair loss. My father is 70 and has plenty of hair. My grandad (mother's side) died 86 and had a lot of hair. My hair used to be thick but now it's quite thin compared to how it was a year or two ago.

I have made an appointment to see my Doctor but unfortunately being in the UK, I will have to wait over a week.

Any advice would be appreciated.

That's basically what my hairline looks like, but I also have bonus crown thinning. F*cking genetics... Anyway, better make sure you get a script for finasteride because you have pretty clear temporal loss. As much as that might hurt to hear, considering the lack of bald men in your family, but it would appear that wh***, Mother Nature, dealt you a bad hand like the rest of us on here. Right now, it's not that bad for you. Your other hair seems to be thick, so you've caught it early. I would stick to a shorter hair style if I were you. Combing the hair in a forward direction typically conceals frontal hair loss the best. At this point, you really on need finasteride and ketoconazole shampoo because minoxidil is really only needed when your crown is thinning, which I'm assuming yours isn't.

You should be able to grow back a fair bit of hair if you get on the big 3 asap (minoxidil, finsteride and ketonzale).

Just a word of warning, im from the UK aswell and not so long ago I had a very ignorant doctor who said bluntly ''We dont prescribe drugs for ageing'' an completely
dismissed me.

It can basically be stopped with finasteride, or drastically slowed down at least. Some regrowth is possible but full regrowth is very unlikely.

Thanks all. I'm glad I got advice on here. My friends and family were all telling me "it's normal to recede as you get older" trying to stop me from worrying. Due to an accident, I have an abnormally shaped ear. I am also on citalopram for depression, so I kinda need my hair to keep it covered! Do I have any chance of getting treatment on the NHS?

I do smoke a bit of cannabis from time to time and I've read that there are some theories that it can cause hairloss. I think I will have to give that up just to be safe.

Hello Armitage. I'm in the UK and like a lot of other Brits get a private prescription for 5mg generic tablets, which I quarter, or half if I'm being lazy.
It's highly unlikely you will get an NHS script [an FP10] for finasteride but the private prescription itself does not cost anything. You present it at as
usual at any pharmacy.

The important thing here is cost of the drug: I pay ~ £5.00 for 28 5mg tablets. Divided into quarters that is 4 months supply; therefore the cost per month is £1.25.
Any which way that is a negligible amount.

I have been on finasteride for ~ 15 years. It saved my crown and vertex and gave me options for the transplant that I recently had.

Emm.. judging from the picture it does seem that you are losing your hair. You're currently at NW2, like me. I'd get a diagnosis on what is causing the hair loss, as it may not be hereditary, it could be due to synthetic hormones, or a hormonal imbalance. In other words, get a professional advice.
