Do I have DUPA or Thyroid Problem?

Hi,
I've been losing hair for quite sometime. I am 21 currently, an Indian by birth and origin, and I started losing hair near my crown at around 15-16 which was made known to me only by my friends. even after them repeatedly telling me that I'm losing hair, I did not pay any heed as I could not see what they were talking about and the hair at the front was pretty much thick and full so I did not even bother to check and also I was too young to actually care about hair loss. it was only when I turned 18 or so that I actually became aware of my hair loss. there was visible scalp under certain lights and my hair started looking thin and was greasy and if I did not shampoo for 2 days they would all clamp together and look like matted with oil. also I had pimples all over my scalp at that time and I kept popping them for some reason(I thought it may be something). at around 19, I could still shampoo every day and get away with a fake volume and a coin sized bald spot at the crown which was at the left side of my crown and not the middle. I also saw that most of my front scalp had already lost its hair and I could no longer part my hair now so I used to comb it over from ear to ear but I still had diffused thinning and loss so with daily shampoo, I gave it some volume and concealed my hair loss although now I was pretty aware of my bald spot. at around 20 I became really depressed because of it and for whole 6 months of the beginning of my college, the only thing I thought of was either my hair loss or suicide. It came to the point that I could no longer fake it with a comb over and pretty much everyone knew I had hair loss.

Some early history with health
When I was still in my mother's womb, the doctors said that I had severe iron deficiency and my mother should seriously start taking care of her health. my mother didn't pay much attention and I was luckily born but with two colours. my face was pitch black with the rest of the body and two ears wheatish. soon after that, I gained complexion and was now completely wheatish. this went on for few years. at that time I was pretty thin and had loads of hair (obviously). I used to get sick very often and was generally very weak. at around 10-11 I was being treated for asthama and was under heavy medications which were supposed to be adult dosages, courtesy to the family doctor. soon after I started gaining weight and developed dark circles around my eyes and pretty much lost all my eyebrows. anyway, this went on for 2 years and slowly the dark circles went and the brows came back. but I was still very fat even though I was pretty active by that time. I was checked for diabetes but they found nothing although the doctors were sure that it was diabetes. meanwhile, I had jaundice and was admitted to the hospital and was again under very heavy medications there. thankfully I survived. Now, I again gained weight and was fat till I turned 19. at 19 suddenly I started losing weight although I was eating the same calories and wasn't even working out. I soon found that I had hemorrhoids and was constantly constipated. I had some ayurvedic medicine for that and was soon relieved but was losing weight like a mother****er which at that time was very amazing since I didn't have to diet or work out. this was accompanied by severe depression which dogged me throughout the first year of my college until I was 21. by then, I started getting normal and apart from some residuary effects, I am pretty normal now. I was checked for my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) few months ago and it was 4.4 (the upper limit is 4.5 or something). the doctor said it's pretty normal but my college doctor said I needed to work out and avoid certain foods because my thyroid levels were high(low? I think it should be hypothyroidism even though I have symptoms both of hypo and hyper). I haven't had it checked after that.

Coming back to my hair loss
So, I have a diffused hair loss with very little hair at the nape of my neck which looks ugly. I strongly believe it's DUPA (or?). Although no one seems to know what causes DUPA and by far everyone I've read says that traditional meds don't work in cases of DUPA and eventually the patient just loses all of his hair with no hair whatsoever as donor hair for the transplant. I'm not considering transplant given that I dont have any donor hair because of the diffused balding plus a male pattern bald spot at the crown. I started with the big 3 seven months ago and have recently dropped the min (I was using 2ml once a night daily all over my scalp). It had greatly reduced my hair fall and I would see only 2-3 strands of hair in the shower. but I started having dark circled and saggy skin on my face after starting min so I dropped it. I'm currently on 1mg generic finasteride daily and ketoconazole shampoo twice a week for seven months. after dropping Min I have experienced a lot of hair fall in the shower but pretty much things haven't changed and I still have the same amount of hair on my head or maybe less. I know that it takes almost 12-14 months for these meds to work and thats why I'm still on finasteride with no side effects so far.
I just wanted to ask one things that is my Hair loss DUPA or due to some other health issue like thyroid and in both the cases, is it treatable?

PS- my skin is also very delicate and I have a lot of tan on my face and arms which doesn't seem to go away even after sun protection. it looks so uneven and frustrating. I had a lot of acne on my face in my teenage which has gone now but I still break out around my upper arm, back and shoulders and have black acne marks all over these areas which again is unsightly. I think all this may be caused due to some common condition but I'm not sure. Also I look older for my age which is not only because of the hair loss.

These are my pics when I had just started the treatments.

Hi Himesh , I am also from India (currently in US) and have the same type of thinning all over on top and front also with the temples receding. No family history of male pattern baldness , but with the temple recession I am almost certain I have male pattern baldness, and I think this type of thinning can be due to hyperthyroidism.Anyways I will be getting blood tests done to check my thyroid levels. Did you see any improvements with finasteride.

I do have a family history of male pattern baldness but all of my family members started losing their hair at around 26-27 or even later. I'm the first one to have lost hair at such a young age. With finasteride, I have retained the same amount of hair with no visible progression. but it is still bad. I've heard that you need to give finasteride some time which I am giving. hoping for the best.

Temple recession doesn't mean you're going bald. If you have no family history then it might just be your hairline maturing. There is no way you've got that gene unless someone in your family is bald. Your thinning on top can also be due to other factors. Go to a derm...
