Does age play a factor in baldness?

Hi, I don't know all that much about hair loss so I figured I'd ask some of you guys. So, my father is bald and so was his father. Hair loss does not exist on my Mother's side of the family. My dad started balding when he was 17 and by the time I was born, when he was 20, he had already lost more than a third of his hair. I'm just a few weeks away from turning 21 and I still have a full head of hair. So my question is if I do go bald, when am I likely to start receding? As I've already passed the age my dad started receding. Also, if my dad went bald from the front of his head rather than the crown, does that mine I will too?

Also I have no idea when my fathers father started balding

You can never know for sure when you'll start balding. There's no mathematical formula that can tell you when it'll happen, however. It's just something you'll have to keep an eye on. Take pictures of your hairline and document the dates. If you notice recession, consult a dermatologist if you wish to be treated for male pattern baldness. My Dad didn't start balding til his late 40's and my older bro is still not balding, but I am at 25 because my mom's side of the family has terrible hair loss and I have likely inherited that. My maternal grandfather has been a Norwood 7 since his late thirties.

Man you could be the lucky guy....
I'm wondering how fully developed are you, can you grow a beard? How much body hair you have?

See in my family male pattern baldness has set on differently for each gent, including myself.
For my oldest brother he started balding when he was 21, he was kinda a late bloomer, his facial hair was not even noticeable and he didn't have too much body hair. He's still I guess you would say a NW2, a heavily developed NW2 though, no thinning at the back, not sure how bad it's going to get but hell he is 28.

Where is you have my other brother brother(slightly younger) who started loosing it I presume when he was 18 and he was always kinda taller than my other brother and you could say he matured earlier, facial hair and all...Heavily loosing it Diffuse thinning at front, pushes it to the side to hide the lack of density with thinnning in the back covered by it being being quite long.

Then you have me, turned into a NW2 overnight and been like it for over a year I guess.Since just before turning 18, maybe I'm a fool but I'm pretty much 100% sure the recession has only deepened, though I do have a little spot marker so I can tell if it has truly gone further and remains the same...Maybe it's just recessed further on the other side i ****ing don't know. I can't run my hand through my hair without pulling out 3 hairs, for someone with such naturally thin hair it is worrysome.

Ok I said all that crap for a reason.
My point is male pattern baldness could definitely set on later, maybe a year from now. Who knows!
It's just you obviously have different genetics but it could spring upon you any day.
Let's face it though male pattern baldness effects 80% of men, though getting it so early in life is a crime.
