Does anyone here take low dose finasteride? E.g 0.25mg every other day?

I am nearly 32 and my hair loss has not changed a huge deal in the lasy four years... i have thinning of the temples and possibly/probably some thinning at the crown. (Possible NW2A). I have very fine hair naturally so it is hard to tell sometimes with pictures but of course i can see the loss at the temples. My dad is however a NW6 and my maternal grandfather maybe a NW4 with thin hair.

Anyway...as my loss is not very aggressive and as i always worry about altering my hormones too much just for hair, i am looking at ways to lower DHT a bit but not greatly. I know that 0.25mg of finasteride every day has almost the same effect on DHT as 1mg does but am not sure about 0.25mg every day. I was wondering if anyone knows more about this or has done similar?

I was using nizoral once per week up until about 6 months ago and stopped as i forgot about my hair...i regret that now as i dont know whether stopping it may have made my hair marginally worse. I tried rogaine years ago on the temples but if anything it killed my temple hair so after one year of use i stopped it.

Yes I was on .25mg every other day for 6 and 1/2 months. No significant regrowth or thickening but I maintained fine. No sides after the 1st 3 weeks.

I moved up to .25mg every day and that's where I'm at now.

.25 EOD is unlikely going to help much in terms of improvement but I think it can certainly be effective for maintenance (depending on the person). I think the main draw for that kind of dosing routine is to ease the mental aspect of jumping on finasteride and being scared of sides.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea about how much 0.25mg EOD would lower serum DHT? My reasoning is that i would like to find a balance between hair and health. I actually don't believe it is healthy to lower serum DHT by 70% for the rest of my life which is what the recommended dose of propecia dose, but hair loss does bother me and i would love to be somewhat free of the mental stress that hair loss causes me.

It seems that taking 0.25mg every day will have the same lowering effect on DHT as 1mg would after a few days...but I am not sure about 0.25mg EOD?

Can i ask how aggressive your hair loss was? Mine is fairly mild but as the years go on my hairline is less intact and the crown is probably thinner than it was. If it goes much more then i will start looking like i am properly balding and it will definitely age me which is something i'd like to avoid at least for 5-6 years.
