I just got put on finasteride. because I have been having testicular pain for 10 months due to my Prostate. For the last 5 months I have been using Rogaine about once a day with little results. Clearly finasteride. is suppose to be more effictive than Rogaine, but how much dosage is normal? I looked at my bottle and I am taking 5mg tablets. Is this good or bad?

1mg of finasteride is what the drug propecia is, most people take around 1mg for male pattern baldness. Although 5mg is fine too, although must people cut there 5mg pills into 4th for ~1.25mg

I had thought about cutting it in half, but since it is primarily for my prostate/testicle pain/problem I figured best let the medicine do its job. Theoretically, would taking more Finasteride (5 mg over 2 mg) be more benefital?

I really don't understand your medical condition. Is it for an enlarged prostate or male pattern baldness?

Only very slightly.

No one understands my medical condition, not even my doctors. I mainly have a lot of left testicle pain and have also been diagonsed with prostatitis. In addition I have a receding hairline. So to answer your question, yes I have prostate problems and yes I have male pattern baldness.

We've been trying antibiotics for about 10 months now. At this point my doctors are trying a mixture of oddities. I figured why not look good with a fuller head of hair while I'm in pain, at least one thing might go right. However, I am worried that the testicular pain from the side effects of Finasteride may conflict with my illness.

This article says 0.5mg - 5mg inhabits the exact same amount of DHT? Merck knew this but still sold the drug in 1mg doses. Wtf?

Yes, it inhibits about the same amount of blood serum DHT, but it does not regrow the same amount of hair as other studies have shown. Two different measurements, and last time I checked, people take it to grow hair, not lower serum DHT levels

For the love of Christ...why can't we speak with precision on these matters?? It doesn't suppress the exact same amount of DHT, it suppresses nearly the same amount of DHT.

I have had a urine culture for cancer and have been checked via physical exam on a couple of occassions. Originally they told me I had epididdymitis, but my urologist didn't see any signs of infection. I noticed a lump/bulge on the very top of my left one that made me think it might of been a tumor, however, the same doctor told me it was just fatty tissue? I know, wtf? I have some fat on my sides, but it doesn't hurt like hell...

Next time I go back, in a few weeks, I might ask about cancer again, or just getting some kind of screening/ultrasound again to see if they can tell what is going on.

Now, after taking Finasteride for just a few days I have noticed my testicle pain has increased some. I was wondering if this side effect is known to dissappear after being on it for awhile, like me just getting use to the drug? Or is is it something we are to deal with?

I once had a problem with pain in the testicles, I had this before and after being on finasteride... I was told that I have "extra" epiditimus tissue (and I do) which is likely to be more prone for infection. I was diagnosed with epiditimitus once and it was cleared up with the antibiotic cipro.

I think everyone gets some "ball ache" every once in a while. If it is persistent, get it looked at.

Extra epididymis tissue, huh? That's interesting and could be a possibility for me. That or my epididymis is still inflammed like no tomorrow, or it's cancer. I am glad Cipro worked for you man, I tried it a few times with no luck. How did your doctors find out you had that extra tissue, if you don't mind me asking?

On my testicles, on the epididymis, it protrudes out more than "normal" because there is more tissue, it could be more vas deferens as well.

They also checked my prostate as well, it was inflamed as well, confirming the inflammation was all throughout the area

Man I am so sorry you had to go through all that junk. I've been experiencing testicle and prostate related pains for about 10 months, probably the same stuff you've had. Did you find that taking Propecia/Proscar/finasteride made you symptoms worse or were they gone before you started the drug? One of my doctors didn't want me taking Propecia for my hair because I of my testicle pain, but another wanted me to get on it because they think I have prostatitis.
