I'm new here and looking for advice from those who've used these both as to which they'd recommend as a first treatment for hairloss?

Finasteride is much milder because it only blocks alpha reductase type II where as dutasteride is often referred to as the "nuclear option" because it inhibits all three types of the alpha reductase enzyme, and to a much higher degree.

therefore always start with finasteride first and don't mess with dutasteride unless you are hellbent on recovering your hair and finasteride wasn't working, because it would surely be more likely to have sides.

By more sides, what are you thinking buddy?

Also, I read that sides can be prevented anyway with these kinds of meds.

Gyno - Take femara or adex
Can't get your johnson up - ED meds
Low libido - Test boosters

Did I miss anything?

I think your missing the point entirely. Listen to Reyl as Tiger Shark sounds like a complete bell end.

finasteride also inhibits type 3 so the main difference is dutasteride blocks type 1 whereas finasteride does not. There is no biological model for 5 alpha reductase type 1 deficient humans so dutasteride is uncharted territory.

Your definitely better off going with finasteride first. Its the only FDA approved treatment. Dutasteride is much riskier, but it does work better because it inhibits more of the same enzyme that finasteride does.
