Dutasteride and Rogaine?

So I've been using a quarter tablet of finasteride for about 4 months now, and I haven't really noticed any improvement. If anything, I feel like my hair has gotten worse. I was thinking of adding rogaine, but wanted to know a few things

1. Has anyone here had successwith it, obviously. I'm in early thinning stages on the vertex and back of head, so it should theoretically work well for me, right?
2. If I don't see results and decide to drop it, can i expect to immediately lose more hair because of that?
3. I hear it's toxic to cats, what do I have to do to make sure my cat doesn't die?

And then I recently heard about dutasteride. Is that better than finasteride? Is it more expensive? Do I replace finasteride with it or do I take both?

I'm just trying to do what I can at this point. The front of my head looks great but the back is getting worse so I just wanna do what I can to bring it back.

Stay with finasteride. It's safer and it's enough for most men to stop losing hair and thicken the crown.
I was thinner for the first 6 months, got nice results around month 10. Be patient.

Ive used minoxidil for 2 years with 3 cats, never had them die lol.mjust don't go rubbing it on them haha.

Yeah, crown is really all I need. I'm taking a quarter tablet and was thinking about bumping up to half but someone was saying that there's pretty much no difference between a quarter and whole tablet, so I'm not sure if it's worth it to do that

adding rogaine is likely to give you regrowth. finasteride alone doesn't really give much regrowth, its mostly for stopping future hairloss, not regrowth.

I wouldn't bother switching to dutasteride. Just stay on finasteride. I would not be worried if I were you

Really? Because everything I've read has mentioned finasteride as the best method of treating hair loss on its own.

I guess my biggest question about rogaine then is still what happens if I don't see results and decide to get off it. Will my hair get worse even if there was no noticeable change? If it holds my hair exactly as it is will the rest just fall out if i ever stop?

it is the best. Without it you will continue to lose your hair eventually. The purpose of finasteride isn't regrowth it's long run maitenance/stability. That is why it is the best. Rogaine gives good regrowth, but if you don't have finasteride to back it up, it won't last which is why it isn't the best.

If you don't see results on rogaine and get off of it nothing will happen and it will be like you never used rogaine in the first place.

No offense to you at all, but every time I see someone post that Finasteride hasn't been working for them, it's always because of one reason: "I'm taking [low dosage]mg/day." While you may start to notice better results by simply giving it more time, I think the best thing you could do is up that dosage to at least 1 mg per day. Get on 5mg generic Proscar if money is an issue. I get mine from Walmart for $9/30 pills. It's great. So ramp that sucker up and start to see much better results.

About cats: I have one. Never had problems. He is 10 now and always been in a minoxidil house.
However please be sure to:
- never leave minoxidil bottles open: they could spill on the ground
- if minoxidil does spill on the ground, dry it immediately with tissue
- when you are done applying, wash your hands before rubbing the animal
remember cats lick their own hair continuously. Do not allow a cat walk on spilled minoxidil.

No, the dosage of finasteride has very little to do with the response. 0.20mg/day will give you indistinguishable results from 1.0 mg/day which is confirmed by numerous studies.

You should not spread misinformation. That's unethical.
